Kenny Dalglish Is Just Like Pep Guardiola Claims Liverpool Star

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has likened his manager Kenny Dalglish to Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.

Dalglish has transformed the fortunes of the Merseyside club since taking over from Roy Hodgson in January.

The Reds got off to their worst ever start in Premier league history under the former Fulham boss but Dalglish has since masterminded victories over Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Liverpool are still in with an outside chance of qualifying for the Europa League and Reina is keen to sing the praises of his Scottish boss.

“Guardiola is a bit younger than him, of course,” Reina said. “But they have very similar backgrounds – icons as players and great managers as well.

“It is important that Kenny knows the club. He’s a legend in Liverpool – and I mean a legend because sometimes that word is used too much for other people.

“Kenny knows exactly what the people here think and what the supporters want to see.

“Because he was a great player himself, he understands the point of view of a player and that means he knows how to set standards.

“He makes everything much easier for us. We have improved since Kenny became manager. We have beaten the big teams. But it is important as players to repeat that in every game.”

Brazil´s Neymar claims racial taunts

Sunday’s showcase friendly between Brazil and Scotland has been marred by allegations of racial abuse directed at Santos star Neymar.

Brazil emerged 2-0 winners in the international friendly match, with forward Neymar scoring both goals in a stand-out performance at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. But reports have emerged of a banana being thrown onto the pitch in north London, with 19-year-old Neymar claiming to have been racially abused during the match.”This atmosphere of racism is totally sad,” Neymar told Brazilian television channel Sportv. “They were jeering me a lot, even when I was about to kick the penalty the entire stadium was jeering.”"We leave our country to play here and something like this happens. It’s sad. I would rather not even talk about it, to keep the subject from escalating.”Neymar became the target of Scotland fans after a lengthy period of treatment by the Brazil physio following a seemingly innocuous challenge in the first half.”The reason Neymar was booed was because we believed he was feigning injury during the course of the game,” Scotland fan groups representative Hamish Husband said. The throwing of bananas at black players was a regrettably common occurrence during British football in the 1970s and 1980s.Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is believed to have removed the banana from the pitch.”There is no more space for racism in the world,” Leiva said.”They say it’s the first world here in Europe, but it’s where it happens the most.”"That has to change. Everybody is equal today, it’s a matter of respect.”Neither manager claimed to have witnessed the incident.”I didn’t see that,” Brazil coach Mano Menezes said. “We didn’t have the displeasure of watching it. If it happened it is lamentable but we don’t have confirmation of the event.”Scotland boss Craig Levein added: “I don’t know anything about that.”It is not certain who threw the banana, which came from a section of the stadium populated largely by Brazil fans.

JLS Deny 3D Movie Claims

Earlier this year, rumours surfaced that popular boy-band JLS were to make their own movie. Glamour reported a source stating: ‘The boys are keen to do a movie, it’s the next logical step.

‘JLS have a huge fanbase who are bound to lap this up and see the film over and over again in the cinema, as well as buying it when it comes out on DVD.’

However, a representative has now strongly denied the rumour.

JLS tickets are on sale now for the band’s summer stadium shows. Olly Murs will join the 2008 X Factor stars throughout the jaunt.

Mark Hateley Claims Marseille Tried to Bribe Him (Video)

no comments by Mad Dog and Glory on February 23rd, 2011

As if Marseille would ever attempt to bribe anyone…Oh hang on?! Is this even news? It is well known that the Stade Vélodrome side of the early 1990s was not averse to using brown paper bags full of money to help win games, hell it led to the club president Bernard Tapie (below) being sent to jail. Anyway this is nonetheless very interesting viewing. Spotted on 101 Great Goals.

Gomez claims Chelsea bid

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has revealed Chelsea lodged a 37.5 million-pound bid for his services during the January transfer window.

Gomez, who tops the Bundesliga scoring charts with 16 goals in 19 appearances this season, claims the staggering bid from the English Premier League club was rejected outright by Bayern and not divulged to the Germany international until later in the month.

Chelsea eventually signed Fernando Torres from English Premier League rivals Liverpool for 50 million pounds – a new British transfer record.

But Gomez has brushed off the missed opportunity to play in England, declaring he would not have left Bayern even if he had known of Chelsea’s interest.

“I only found out about the offer after the club had turned it down,” Gomez told Sport Bild.

“But it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. I am already at a top club and I am playing where I always wanted to.”

Championship wrap: QPR, Norwich stake promotion claims

Queens Park Rangers remain five points clear of second-placed Norwich in the Championship after both sides posted wins on Tuesday.

QPR enjoyed a 2-0 triumph over lowly Portsmouth, with Adel Taarabt on target after an hour at Loftus Road to score his 14th goal of the season after Pompey goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown let the Moroccan’s long-range strike slip through his hands.

A Clint Hill header 17 minutes from the end gave the home side all three points and extended Portsmouth’s winless streak to eight games, leaving them just four points clear of the drop zone.

Norwich kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 2-1 home win over Millwall, but needed Henri Lansbury’s last-gasp strike to seal the result. Elliott Ward had earlier cancelled out Theo Robinson’s opener for the visitors.

Swansea moved into third place with a 2-0 win over Bristol City thanks to a Darren Pratley brace, while Nottingham Forest came from behind to inflict a 2-1 defeat on Coventry City and move into fourth.

Marlon King gave Coventry the lead before Lewis McGugan and Robert Earnshaw powered the visitors to their fifth consecutive win.

Cardiff slipped from third to fifth after being held to a 2-2 draw at home by Reading, with on-loan star Craig Bellamy’s last-minute free-kick rescuing a crucial point for the hosts as the battle for play-off spots intensifies.

Sixth-place Leeds also played out a 2-2 draw, at Hull City, and needed strikes from Robert Snodgrass and Davide Somma to come back from a two-goal deficit and salvage a point.

Barnsley moved into 12th with a 2-0 win over Preston North End, and Ipswich enjoyed a 2-1 win over Derby County at Pride Park.

Doncaster Rovers had an own goal from Michael Duff to thank for their 1-0 win over Burnley, and Middlesbrough put further breathing space between themselves and the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe who remain second from bottom.

Leicester City moved into 10th place thanks to an early Andy King goal that handed them a 1-0 win over Sheffield United, while Watford remain in seventh spot after a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road.
