Fabregas keen to play for Arsenal again

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has spoken of his desire to one day play for Arsenal again.

The Spanish international left the Emirates Stadium in the close season after a protracted transfer saga involving the Gunners and the club where he started his career.

The 24-year-old eventually joined the European champions for an initial fee of 25 million pounds, but says that leaving north London was a deeply emotional time for him.

“If I have to leave Barcelona, I will go back to Arsenal – I would like to,” Fabregas told Sky Sports News.

“I am not embarrassed to say that the day I left I could only say ‘Thank you very much’, I couldn’t say more.”

“I’m not embarrassed to say that I nearly cried.”

“Arsene Wenger, I have never met someone that loyal. He is one of the best, I really believe that.”

Fabregas has scored eight goals in 12 appearances in La Liga this season, while at the same time contributing five assists.

Ibrahimovic suspended again

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been handed a three-game suspension for being sent off against Fiorentina.

The 29-year-old, who is his side’s leading scorer with 14 Serie A goals this season, was given a straight red card for dissent in Milan’s 2-1 away win on Sunday, although he denies swearing at a linesman.

The temperamental Swede was making his first appearance back after serving a two-game ban for striking Bari defender Marco Rossi last month.

Ibrahimovic had already been booked in the Fiorentina match and would have been facing a one-game ban, but his straight red meant his penalty was increased to three matches.

“I lost the ball and was angry with myself, not the assistant referee. I was talking to myself,” Ibrahimovic said.

“I didn’t protest the red card because there was nothing to be said, he had made his decision.”

“My teammates have reason to be angry with me, as during a period when Fiorentina were putting on the pressure was certainly not the right time to get sent off.”

“I am sorry, but it seems as if nowadays I can’t even mutter to myself without getting into trouble. I’ll do everything I can to help Milan win the Scudetto.”

Milan, who lead Serie A by three points from Napoli, are tipped to appeal the ban, but if that move proves unsuccessful they will be without their leading scorer for league clashes with Sampdoria, Brescia and Bologna.

He will, however, be available for their Coppa Italia semi-final clash with Palermo on April 20.

Not exactly the Double we’re looking for, but nevertheless a nice coup for the club after that wretched run that followed us into February.

bob&carlo

Carlo was named manager of the month and Bob player of the month when the Barclays Premier League awards for March were announced earlier today. Fully deserved I would say.

Well done, gentlemen.

Could (maybe) see Rio again this season

By: Shaun | March 24th, 2011

rio2This is purely speculation of course, but the news making its way around the internet is that we could potentially see Rio again sometime this season. The prior prognosis was that he would miss the rest of the season recovering from a calf injury. Maybe it’s such a slow news day with the international break that any sort of news becomes a major headline.

If it is true (and it’s based on Rio getting an injection to help with the injury), this will definitely be welcome news for United fans. It’s always tough to gauge in instances like this how close a player is to being fit for selection. Nani was supposed to be out for 5 weeks from the Carragher tackle, but returned within 1. A big difference however is that Nani is a lot younger than Rio and has not had the injury struggles that the (now) former England captain has had (nice going Fabio) in the past.

Even if Rio was to take some painkillers and injections to numb the pain and be game ready, I just can’t see his body holding up and him being a consistent fixture in our side for the final 2 months of the season.

Just wanted to throw some (incredibly speculative) good news out there.
