Arsenal Likely to Complete Signing of Dutch International Who Confirms He Wants Gunners Move

Arsenal face competition from Juventus for Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Tuttosport says Juve are ready to cash in on Gigi Buffon to fund their own transfer plans this summer.

A host of keepers are now under consideration as Buffon’s replacement, including Salvatore Sirigu (Palermo), Federico Marchetti (Cagliari) and Stekelenburg.

But the Dutchman revealed to Tuttosport: “If an offer from Arsenal arrives, I will leave.”

SOURCE: Yahoo Eurosport

Well if indeed that quote is accurate, and it is all over the web, then surely that is a pretty damn good indication that the Ajax man wants to move to the Emirates, a move that will surely go some way to helping the North London club from resolving their keeper crisis.

Manuel Almunia was of course the first choice keeper at the Emirates when the season began but a succession of clangers led to the Spaniard being dropped and replaced by the improved, but still inconsistent, Polish international Lukasz Fabianski until he fell foul to injury. Then in came youngster Wojciech Szczesny who looked decent but then made huge errors before also getting injured. Fourth choice keeper Vito Mannone is out on loan and also sidelined.

Arsene Wenger has therefore set his sights on bringing in a keeper and the likes of Mark Schwarzer and Pepe Reina have been mentioned heavily over the past year but news that Dutch international Maarten Stekelenburg is interested in a move to the Gunners will surely lead to 28 year old becoming the favourite to become the next number one keeper at the Emirates Stadium.

Tottenham Likely to Sign Manchester United Defender This Summer

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is set to take advantage of defender Wes Brown’s falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United by signing the full back this summer.
The England international and his manager at Old Trafford have reportedly not seen eye to eye for some time now, with the 31 year old barely having been spotted in a United shirt in recent seasons after the pair had a spectacular falling out last summer.
And, with Redknapp known to be in the market for a new right back at the end of this season due to continued and lingering doubts over current duo, Croatia international Vedran Corluka and his understudy at White Hart Lane, Scotland international Alan Hutton, it is believed the Tottenham boss will make a move for Brown.
Brown himself has told friends that he does not expect to be offered a new long-term deal to stay with United and would relish the chance to resurrect his career in north London.

Having reportedly fallen out with Sir Alex Ferguson earlier in the season it was only a matter of time before the experienced utility man looked at making an exit and if Tottenham are genuinely interested then it could well be a good move for the England international to make.

Wes Brown has featured a few times this season but in reality the only reason that he has figured in Ferguson’s plans at all has been down to suspensions and injuries forcing his hand and to be honest when called in the Manchester United man has not covered himself in glory and it seems like this summer would be the right time to move on.

The emergence of Chris Smalling at Manchester United has seen Brown slip down the pecking order at centre back with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans also ahead of the one club man. At right back he has similarly been usurped by Brazilian youngster Rafael with John O’Shea also standing in his way.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has split right back duties at White Hart Lane between Vedran Corluka and Alan Hutton with neither really securing the position as their own and much has been made of the North London club’s various injury concerns at the centre of their defence with the likes of William Gallas, Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson and Ledley King all having had their fair share of time out with various knocks.

Fabregas ´90 percent´ likely for Barca trip

Arsene Wenger has all but confirmed Cesc Fabregas’ place in the squad for Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Barcelona on Tuesday.

The former Catalan youth player limped off with a hamstring injury in his side’s 1-0 victory over Stoke in the English Premier League in February and has missed three matches with the complaint, but the French boss said Fabregas is almost certain to be part of the Arsenal squad for the second-leg, round-of-16 match at the Nou Camp.

“Fabregas will have a final test today (Monday) and I am 90 percent he will travel and be fit,” Wenger said of his captain.

“It is vital for us because he is important in the transition between defending to attacking because he gets us out of pressure and can give a final ball as well.”

“He is one of the leaders of the team – the leader of the team – so it is important to have him in a big game like that.”

Wenger conceded Pep Guardiola’s side would attempt to manipulate possession to try and overcome Arsenal’s 2-1 first-leg lead, but he believes his side is equipped for the job as they bid to reach the competition’s quarter-finals.

“Yes we have to (defend) because it is one of the few games where we spend 60 percent of time defending,” he said.

“It is very important but we have to fight against the preconceived ideas as well because the only one way of thinking is that Arsenal cannot defend.”

“But I would just remind you that in the last 11 games we have seven clean sheets in the Premier League and conceded less goals than Man United, for example, which is a very good defence.”
