Galliani: We will wait for Tevez

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani is adamant that the Rossoneri will wait for Carlos Tevez until the end of the January transfer window.

The Rossoneri have entered talks with Manchester City regarding the player’s move to San Siro, but the Citizens don’t want to release Tevez on loan without the buy-out option.

“Will Tevez be a Christmas present for the fans? It’s tough in a period of economic difficulty, but we will try to keep the supporters happy,” Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.

“Maxi Lopez? Catania have been very kind and open, but I made a promise to Carlitos that we’ll wait for him until January 31.

“If Tevez does not arrive, then we will stay as we are.”

Napoli to make a move for Tevez

Napoli have switched their attention to Carlos Tevez after Manchester City officials rejected their inquiry for Mario Balotelli.

The Argentine will be available at a cut-back price in January and the Partenopei believe they can persuade the Citizens into doing a swap deal.

City boss Roberto Mancini has earlier expressed his interest in Napoli stars Marek Hamsik, Edison Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

It is believed that Napoli chiefs would be willing to send one of the players to Eastlands in exchange for Carlos Tevez.

However, should they decide to make a move, the Azzurri are likely to face stiff competition from other interest clubs.

Tevez’s former club Corinthians are reportedly leading the race for the player’s signature, while Milan and Juventus are also keen.

Corinthians reveal doubts over Tevez

Corinthians director Paulo Rosenberg is still interested in signing Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, but his recent behaviour has cast doubts on any move.

Tevez has been on the fringes of the City squad since allegedly refusing to come on a substitute in a Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich last month, and has not played since.

It looks almost certain that the 27-year-old will be leaving Manchester in the near future, and Corinthians had become one of the favourites for his signature after an abortive attempt in August.

Timao marketing director Rosenberg, however, advised that the club had doubts over Tevez’s state of mind.

“I do not know if the coach believes he needs Tevez or what he thinks of his semi-crazy behaviour,” the official told SportTV.

“I don’t know if the trainer wants to break the squad harmony by bringing in an unstable Argentine.”

Rosenberg added that he was not ruling out a transfer, but that it had to be on terms favourable to the Brazilians.

“If the transfer was for a reasonable value we would make it happen, but we cannot do crazy things. I need to win championships, be it with Messi or a nobody,” he pointed out.

Tevez is a favourite on the Corinthians terraces, after winning the 2005 Brasileirao during his previous spell in Sao Paulo – the last national title won by the Timao.

Mourinho to Man City, Tevez to Real Madrid

In whats expected be the first ever player-for-manager swap, disgruntled and home sick Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is expected to be swapped for “the special one” Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

Tevez, who has been unhappy at City, has been making everyone sick of his incessant whining for some time and has said today he definitely wants to leave the club. Tevez’s family, his primary reason for wanting to leave, never settled in England, and eventually returned home to South America. The main barriers to them staying in England were reported to be the climate and language, both of which would be out of the equation in Spain. He would fit well into the Real side, and could take Kaka’s place in the lineup when he leaves for Arsenal over the summer.

Mourinho has had many well publicized spats with the directors at Real, but that really isn’t enough to open a rift large enough to get him fired. what will get you fired at Madrid, more than anything else, is having a spat with a player who is integral to the club. Mourinho has made this mistake in his recent dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo isn’t just a big player, and prestige talisman for the club, he sells the most jersey and brings in the most money of any player in the world. For that reason alone Madrid will never sell him to City as the rumors have suggested. The Daily Mail maybe be reporting that they will sell him for 150m, but they also thought the war in Iraq, British imperialism, and Marmite were good ideas so we won’t be trusting the judgement of their editors thank you.

For all those reasons, it seems likely Mourinho will leave sunny Spain, for his much desired return to the Premiership, and with the two being roughly equal in value, and prestige, its seems a natural choice for them to be swapped in and out of Manchester City jersey.

I for one, will welcome the new Portuguese overlord of the blue side of Manchester, and look forward to watching him spar with Sir Alex on a regular basis.

Carlos Tevez to miss FA Cup Semi Final 2011 Man City vs Man United

Apr 14, 2011

Manchester City have suffered a huge blow ahead of their FA Cup 2011 Semifinal vs Manchester United at Wembley with the news that striker Carlos Tevez will miss the game with an injury. Tevez, easily City’s most influential player on the pitch, suffered the injury in Man City’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool last Monday and was subbed early in the fixture.

Tevez’s injury is bad news for City, who are effectively out of the title race and are facing a three way battle with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur for two Champions League spots.

City manager Roberto Mancini has said that Tevez will be out for close to three- four weeks, meaning that the forward does have a chance to play the final vs either Stoke or Bolton if City do beat their neighbours in the semifinal this weekend.

Birthday boy Tevez scores a hat trick for City

Roberto Di Matteo has been sacked. A victim of unrealistic expectations generated in the wake of West Brom's Premiership return and some very bright wins earlier in the season. For Carlito, a great birthday celebration.

A Tevez take over as City get past Newcastle

By Shourin Roy on December 26, 2010 9:58 PM | Comments | TrackBacksShare|

A Boxing Day error by Tim Krul gifted Carlos Tevez the ball and it led to a goal for Gareth Barry in the opening minutes. Another defensive lapse saw the Argentinian sprint by Fabricio Colocinni and get his foot onto a James Milner cross to stick the ball into the net. Two goals and the game was not even five minutes old.

Tevez's celebration was a variation on his usual Flopy routine. This time he raced down the sideline, pulled out a baby nipple from his sock which he stuck in his mouth for a tasty treat.

Newcastle answered through Andy Carroll but Tevez's second goal snuffed out their spirited comeback. The club must be breathing easier now that he's recommitted to Eastlands. He's proving immense as City push onto hitherto unimaginable levels.

Tevez fails to inspire City as Everton end losing streak

Manchester City wasted a chance to go top of the Premier League as Carlos Tevez’s decision to withdraw his transfer request failed to inspire the hosts in a 2-1 defeat against 10-man Everton on Monday.

A win at Eastlands would have put Roberto Mancini’s side top at Christmas for the first time in 81 years and they got the perfect pre-match boost when captain Tevez revealed he has decided to stay at the club.

But even the presence of the Argentine striker couldn’t stop Everton claiming their first win in eight matches, leaving third placed City two points behind leaders Manchester United.

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill struck in the fourth minute with a close-range header before Leighton Baines curled in fine finish in the 19th minute.

There was hope for City when Everton had striker Victor Anichebe sent off for a second yellow card following a lunge on Pablo Zabaleta in the second half.

An own goal by Everton defender Phil Jagielka reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute, but David Moyes’ men held on after City’s Kolo Toure was dismissed in stoppage time.

Everton spoil City´s big chance on Tevez return

Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines stole the show from Carlos Tevez as 10-man Everton clinched a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Eastlands on Monday.

David Moyes’ side, who had not won in seven matches, took control within the opening 20 minutes through Cahill’s early effort and a fine strike from Baines.

After Everton’s Victor Anichebe was sent off for a second yellow card just before the hour, City halved the deficit through Phil Jagielka’s own goal.

Despite constant pressure, City could not find an equaliser and missed out on the chance to move top of the table at Christmas for the first time in 81 years as their seven-match unbeaten run came to an end.

They also had defender Kolo Toure dismissed in stoppage time to complete a miserable evening that ruined Tevez’s return to action just hours after he decided to withdraw a transfer request.

Everton’s victory was just their fourth in the league this season and ended a seven-game winless run.

Cahill told Sky Sports: “The achievement is massive. We’ve not got rewards in the last couple of months but we showed our mettle and deserved to win.

“This team works hard for each other and we’re proud of the result.”

Moyes added: “Tim Cahill takes the fight to people – he’s the one who leads us into battle.

“We’ve moved him about and he willingly does it. His attitude is terrific and he puts himself on the line for his team.”

It had been billed as Tevez’s big night but Everton took the lead in the fourth minute.

Anichebe failed to turn a header on target from a Baines cross. But Seamus Coleman collected the ball and clipped over a cross that was glanced in at the near post by Australian midfielder Cahill.

As the hosts looked for a response, Yaya Toure’s cross-field pass picked out David Silva but the Spanish winger thumped a shot narrowly wide of goal.

The pressure continued and from Aleksander Kolarov’s corner, Mario Balotelli had a header saved by Tim Howard.

Pablo Zabaleta was still in the changing rooms getting treatment after a clash of heads with Cahill when Everton scored a second, once again thanks to fine work by Baines.

The full back broke forward and fed Anichebe, whose cross was touched back by Cahill for Baines to sweep a curling shot into the net.

A loose pass from Vincent Kompany almost let Everton in for a third with Leon Osman breaking only for his shot to be deflected straight to Joe Hart by Kolo Toure.

City defender Kolarov had a curling free kick pushed wide by Howard as Everton were forced to withstand a spell of sustained City pressure before half-time.

City faced further disruption at the break when Adam Johnson came on to replace James Milner at the start of the second half.

But Howard was soon forced into another scrambling save as he pushed away a powerful strike from Kolarov.

The Serbian also saw a shot from just outside the area fly narrowly wide of the post.

Just before the hour, Everton’s task was made far harder by Anichebe’s dismissal.

Minutes after he was booked for a challenge on Joe Hart, with Moyes about to take him off, Anichebe flew into Pablo Zabaleta and was shown a second yellow card.

After another scramble on the edge of the Everton area, Gareth Barry’s dipping shot was too high to test Howard.

But Everton paid the price for being unable to clear when Johnson fed Yaya Toure and the midfielder’s shot deflected off Jagielka and crept inside the post.

Johnson curled another shot just over the bar as Rodwell could only knock a clearance to the edge of the area.

They went even closer when Yaya Toure lobbed into space and Balotelli broke clear only to see his shot come back off the post before Howard denied Tevez with the follow up.

But as City desperately pressed forward, Kolo Toure was also shown a second yellow card for a pull on Diniyar Bilyaletdinov.

Man.City manager relieved at end of Tevez saga

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini admits he is relieved to see Carlos Tevez end his attempts to force his way out of Eastlands.

The Argentina striker handed in a transfer request, which was immediately rejected by the club, a fortnight ago and once the issue became public, it dominated the agenda at Eastlands all last week.

But just hours before City’s 2-1 defeat to Everton on Monday, which saw them miss the opportunity to top the table at Christmas for the first time in 81 years, the club announced that Tevez was staying.

Despite seeing his team’s seven-game unbeaten run brought to an end, Mancini is hopeful that bringing to an end the Tevez distraction can only benefit his team, although he would not discuss the talks that took place with the player on Monday.

He said: “It’s important news, the only good news this evening. It was very important for everyone, the squad the club, for him.

“It’s important that we finish having to talk about this situation. We’re happy for this.

“I think (the reasons for Tevez’s U-turn) are not important. It’s important that the situation was clear in this moment and everything went in a good way, that’s important.”

Mancini’s team have earned a reputation for being rugged defensively but the Italian believes his team can only challenge for the title if they improve at the back.

He was angry with his side’s defending against Everton and added: “We are frustrated because we had a big chance to go top after 18 games.

“It was a fantastic thing but now we must restart the season. We have to understand that we can’t sleep when we play this game. then maybe we can go to the top in the future.”

City fell behind at Eastlands when Tim Cahill scored his ninth goal of the season with an early header before Leighton Baines curled in a shot midway through the first half.

Everton’s Victor Anichebe was sent off for two bookable offences but City could not make their dominance pay.

They pulled one goal back when Yaya Toure’s shot deflected off Phil Jagielka and past Tim Howard but their challenge was finished when Kolo Toure was sent off in injury time.

Everton manager David Moyes saw his team climb to 14th in the table after they recorded a fourth Premier League victory of the season.

The Scot thinks his team have shown they have the potential to beat the best in the league but have to repeatedly perform against lesser sides.

Moyes, who lost Phil Jagielka to a thigh injury, said: “I said at the start that we can compete at the top end but we haven’t been able to compete at the bottom end.

“We haven’t been able to beat the teams below us, especially at Goodison Park.

“When it comes to the bigger games we seem to respond to the challenge and we’re a match for a lot of teams.

“It’s not just a victory because you’re playing against a team who have the chance of being crowned champions at the end of the season, they’ve got a chance.”

Moyes believes Cahill is in the best form of his career after the Australian midfielder’s prolific finishing once again masked his strikers’ deficiencies.

He added: “His energy levels looked back to the old days. There were signs that he’d maybe dipped down a little bit but he showed great energy and we needed him to.

“The work he had to do when we were at 10 men and even when we had 11, I thought he did a great job.

“Tim epitomised what we?re about, he was the one that kept taking the fight to Manchester City.”

Mancini´s Tevez delight tempered by loss

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini said the news that captain Carlos Tevez was staying at the club was the silver lining to their loss to Everton.

Mancini’s men flopped to a 2-1 defeat at Eastlands on Monday, missing the chance to head the English Premier League table on Christmas Day for the first time in 81 years.

But while the Italian was shattered to drop points at home, the fact that his leading goal scorer Tevez withdrew his transfer request on Monday was a relief.

“I think that is important news, and is the only good news this evening. He (Tevez) is very important for everyone, for the club, for the squad, for him,” Mancini said.

Mancini said City’s slow start cost them all three points.

“We lost the game in the first 10 minutes, we conceded the first goal to easily, we slept on the first chance that they had,” he said.

“We conceded the second goal, when we were with 10 men (Pablo Zabaleta was off the field receiving treatment at the time). I think we had a lot of chances the second time, the second half.”

“We are frustrated for this, we had a big chance to go top (at Christmas) after 80 (81) years. But now we must restart, the season is long, I think if we understand that we can’t sleep when we play this game, maybe we can go on the top in the future.”

Mancini added that striker Mario Balotelli’s early substitution was ‘probably’ due to a knock to his knee, but did not confirm the extent of the injury.

Everton manager David Moyes was full of praise for his side, but added that their inability to beat lower-ranked teams was the major factor in their position in the bottom half of the league table.

“I think we can compete at the top end, but we’ve not been able to compete at the bottom end, because we’ve not been able to beat the teams below us, especially at Goodison (Park). I think when it’s come to the bigger games I think we were able to respond to the challenge,” Moyes said.

The Scottish boss credited his midfielders for their efficiency in possession.

“It was tough for us even when it was 11 men, I thought Man City played better than last year. I thought last year we had played better football,” he said.

“Tonight, it was (Mikel) Arteta and (Steven) Pienaar that made more of a difference when we had the ball. I thought the resilience and the competitiveness as a team (was good).”

“When it went to 10 men, I thought this is going to be a long (day), it was long as it was, but it was going to be longer. I thought they did a great job, resilient, stuck to our task, and ardent defending at times, blocking shots and getting in the way of things. And the goalkeeper (Tim Howard) as well, made some terrific saves.”
