Liverpool 0, Utrecht 0: A Recap in Four Short Parts

By: Ed | December 15th, 2010
eccleston

Assuming you think that a match actually took place tonight.

Part I: This is the void where your excitement for Liverpool used to live.

Part II: Already qualified and playing a side that were already eliminated, Liverpool were atrocious.

Part III: It was hoofball, sinking deep, lacking pulse, one of the more boring matches in memory.

Part IV: Already qualified, on the strength of two wins and four draws. It’s a celebration, bitches!

« Matchday: Liverpool v. Utrecht | Home | AkshayeIs there some way the fans can officially get Hodgson chucked out! i dont mind another court scenario to remove hodgson like we did for Hicks n Gillet ! Does anybody remember them by the way? or has the hodgson era overshadowed the pathetic times we had with them? they seem like angels now dont they?AkshayeMy brother's finals are coming up so my parents wanted the television connection to be blocked for a month, n i BEGGED n BEGGED n promised them loads of crap so that i could see the liverpool games. Last night was the first game i was gonna watch after this, n i have no words left to describe how i feel now. I was excited to see our youngsters play, n Joe cole make a fool out of a lesser opposition cos face it, its high time he does something!
If Hodgson says we were a weaker side and playin youngsters to justify the draw, somebody should show him that Wenger also plays with his youngsters here n there n they still play like the Arsenal main team!
This man hodgson is making me feel emotions iv never experienced before. There was a time when i would get angry n have an off day everytime liverpool lost or drew a game they should win. N now im hoping v dont lose at Anfield to Utrecht! I miss the old times when we won 4-1 at old trafford n crushed madrid 4-0, its ridiculous whats become of us.
Roy needs to go, i hope blackburn take him, he'll do well with them. i think Liverpool will play better without a manager than that face-rubbing douchebag!Cheeky_FellowBBC Text Commentary:

"The FC Utrecht goalie looks in good Vorm.
Re 20.20. The midfield is playing DuPlan too.
Hope Ricky van Wolfswinkel doesn't get caught napping tonight. Sorry.
And still no-one has delivered the Keller blow, though.
All these Dutch puns are... Kuyt good.
You lot should quit Babel-ing on.
I seem to have Aurelio started something with these puns.
Time to Reina those puns in, Sam.
All these puns should really be put on the Jon-Jo Shelvey for now.
This has 0-0 Wuytens all over it!
Liverpool need Torres their game.
We have to stop these puns, we are going round in Skrtels.
Liverpool matches used to be entertaining. Once a pun a time.
I was expecting a much more Utrecht-ive brand of football from this Dutch side...
This game is certainly going to go down to Maguire...
Looks like the Utrecht manager's sticking his Oar in.
Well thank goodness that's over and pun with.MartinPhanos: The Hands of FateMikeFulham beats liverpool, me thinks roy gets sacked. NESV aren't that stupid.Red2deathDon't understand the press going on about how this dour display is proof of Liverpool's lack of squad depth.

Put Hodgson in charge of Barcelona's A-team and you'd also come to the conclusion that they need a complete overhaul. Gee, sell Messi, he's useless and looks uninterested anyway. Barca are unable to attack, must be because they simply lack the quality.RedLiverBirdFCAah. I am so glad I missed the game and was systematically drowning myself in the deep end of my university swimming pool.GrubbAlso for anyone who's interested, a piece from TTT about why Torres is scoring less goals. It patently is NOT because his body language suggests he is disinterested. So ner.

http://tomkinstimes.com/2010/1.../JoelHow did Pacheco do?EdI'd say he had a sort of immediate positive impact for the first 5-10 minutes or so, but then he was drowned by the overwhelming negativity of the pace of play.GrubbIn the few minutes I managed to watch, he took up good positions with his back to goal, but his touch was a bit heavy and whenever he turned towards goal, there was nobody making a run to create space for him or drag defenders out of position. He's clever on the ball though, popped a few accurate passes out from quite heavy pressure.

The tactics sucked. Royally. Again.JoelI suppose thats a small positive, albeit an expected one (on both counts).EdI fear that I neglected to mention that, as the picture above demonstrates, Nathan Eccleston's hairstyle was quite exciting.NoelDamn my crummy stream, looks like I missed out on the best part of the match.JoelSounds like my Business Associations exam had about the same level of excitement as the game did.EdActually, if you could send me a video of your class, I'd gladly watch that and provide a recap.NeilWhat a dreadful game. Defending far too deep. If Poulsen never plays again it will be too soon and the more I see of Hodgson the more I want him out.NoelSo much for thinking that the whole qualified/eliminated dealie and all the rest had the potential to at least give us an enjoyably open match. Can we still blame the Jabulani?JordanAs a native of the good land, South Africa, I can recall the recent time in my own backyard when every single poor occurrence in a match was blamed on that Jabulani, and I remember thinking, "Wow, I can't wait for the new season to start, no more cheap excuses, and watch some good football again supporting the club I love"... oh how wrong I was!!

Indeed, I still love Liverpool, but wow, this match was the epitome of Roy Hodgson's reign at the club so far... limp, lifeless, passive, submissive... simply terrible I suppose, and its slowly becoming a disgrace to what this club stands for.

I know the match itself was relatively meaningless, and with 10 or so changes to the first 11 from Newcastle, perhaps it can be somewhat justified, but these performances continue to take their toll on everyone's morale at the club.

With that said, Pacheco got a few minutes :O

PS. Keep up the great job with this blog... I genuinely enjoy the option of coming over here after a game to see that I'm not alone in my thoughts! When things are good, its great to celebrate together, and when they're bad, its great to know that I'm not the only Red who wants to punch a small reindeer...blog comments powered by Disqus

Real Madrid make short work of Ajax, 4-0

By Shourin Roy on November 23, 2010 9:56 PM | Comments | TrackBacksShare|

Karim Benzema gets the ball rolling as he niftily finishes off Mesut Oezil's nice little layback. Alvaro Arbeloa scorches the ball magnificently past Maarten Stekelenburg for Real's second goal. Cristiano Ronaldo then takes advantage of an Ajax error to drag the ball wide and then slam the ball across towards the far post for the third.

Urby Emanuelson then chopped down Mesut Oezil after the German midfielder showed some deft footwork to get the better of the defender. Ronaldo did not miss the spot kick.

Real Madrid and Milan are through from Group G while it was curtains for Ajax, the highest scoring team in the Eredivisie last season. This being Mourinho's Madrid, the match ended in some controversy as it appeared Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos practically invited their red cards. The two players will miss the meaningless match against Auxerre but their suspensions mean that they start the knockout stage on a clean slate.
