David Silva: New deal with Man City David Silva: New deal with Man City

Spanish star David Silva has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City, the Premier League champions have confirmed.

The 26-year-old had two years left on the deal he signed when he joined the club from Valencia in 2010.

Reports had suggested Silva was set to agree terms on a new long-term deal worth £200,000 per week and City have confirmed that he has now put pen-to-paper.

The player revealed his delight at committing to City to 2017, telling the club's official website: "I'm very pleased.

"I'm delighted to be extending my contract and being here really does feel just like home for me."
David Silva Quotes of the week

"I've been here for two years now and I feel very happy here at the club, in the city and with all the people.

"So now I'm delighted to be extending my contract and being here really does feel just like home for me.

"We've won the Premier League title and two other trophies too, and the team is growing and we are now aiming at the Champions League and so that also is another reason to want to stay here and try and win it.

"As I said, I feel very comfortable here and I want to try and win trophies like those.

"These last two years have gone very well and so let's hope that the next five go as well or even better.

"The fans have always given me their support since I arrived here, and recently they've been wanting me to sign, so hopefully this goes someway to thanking them for the affection they've shown towards me, something which also helped me decide to put pen to paper."

Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on David Silva

Barcelona and Real Madrid are pondering summer move for Manchester City star David Silva.

The Spanish giants showed interest in the Spain international when he was playing for Valencia, but he ultimately decided to join Manchester City.

The player’s dazzling displays are one of the main reasons why Manchester City have climbed to the Premiership summit and the Citizens now face a real battle to keep hold of their star.

According to Daily Mail, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been impressed by Silva’s performances this season and are pondering summer bid for the 25-year-old.

The Spain international played a crucial part in City’s amazing 6:1 victory at Old Trafford and is already considered a cult hero at Eastlands.

Despite the impressive showings, Silva has seen little playing time in the national team, but his chances of securing a starting place would probably increase significantly if he was to return to La Liga.

Da Silva escapes FA ban

Manchester United full-back Rafael da Silva has avoided a longer suspension following his sending off against Tottenham.

Da Silva, 20, will miss United’s clash with Birmingham on Saturday after he received two yellow cards in his side’s 0-0 draw with Spurs at White Hart Lane last week.

But it was the Brazilian’s vehement protests towards referee Mike Dean that drew the ire of the FA and resulted in a misconduct charge against the defender.

Da Silva immediately accepted the charge, but found out on Friday that he would not miss any further Premier League matches.

Instead, he was hit with an 8,000 pound fine and a warning over his future conduct.

In an FA disciplinary hearing, Da Silva and his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, gave evidence which led to the Brazilian being cleared of any further wrongdoing.

“Dermot Gallagher said it was the worst decision of the week,” Ferguson said by video link.

“Everyone knows it was a bad decision. It happens. Unfortunately, in a game of that magnitude it could have had a big impact.”

Rafael’s next Manchester United appearance is likely to come against Blackpool on Tuesday.

No doubt that City stole one here but Blackpool's naivity in front of goal lays bare their weaknesses. They play attractive football no doubt, but not scoring in that first half was their undoing.
