Mourinho: Real´s title hopes slipping away

Jose Mourinho admits it will be ‘difficult’ for Real Madrid to win the La Liga title after their shock 1-0 loss to Osasuna on Sunday.

Javier Camunas was the hero for Osasuna at the Estadio Reyno de Navarra, with his second-half winner meaning Real have now slipped seven points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Barca have lost just once this season and seem destined to claim their third straight title, and even Mourinho admits his side have a mountain to climb if they are to resurrect their championship hopes.

“This is our second defeat in La Liga and we are in a very difficult situation with respect to the first-place team,” Mourinho said.

“I don’t like to lose when you give the match away by not playing, not fighting or not being committed or focused. That is not the case.”

“Tonight the other team played its heart out and had a week to prepare for the match. They played to the brink.”

“My players have done their jobs with dignity and I have nothing to reproach them for, they fought to the end. We lost three points that we didn’t deserve to lose.”

“Tomorrow is a new day. There will be another match and we will be there.”

Mourinho paid tribute to struggling Osasuna, who broke an eight-game winless run with their victory on Sunday.

“Osasuna are a tough team and the crowd was fantastic,” Mourinho said. “I don’t think many teams win here.”

“We had opportunities to score in both halves, but we haven’t done it. And if the opponents score first it is very difficult. Congratulations to Osasuna.”

Chelsea bid for Ligue 1 star

Chelsea have sent an offer for Saint Etienne winger Dimitri Payet, according to L’Equipe.

Even though Saint Etienne chiefs are adamant their most prized asset is not for sale, Chelsea have reportedly decided to test their resolve by sending an official offer for the French international.

Les Verts have already rejected two bids from Paris Saint Germaine but it is thought they would be willing to consider any offer exceeding

Celtic star rules out Brescia move

Celtic midfielder Efrain Juarez insists he is not close to joining Italian side Brescia on loan.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a loan move away from the Hoops this month.

“I was very surprised to hear this rumour. I went to train, then I had a sleep in the afternoon. When I woke up, my phone was ringing like crazy,” he told the Daily Record.

“Even my dad phoned to ask what was happening about Brescia.

“I am absolutely not aware of any transfer to Italy. I remain at Celtic. ”

Juarez signed a four-year contract with Celtic when he joined the club last summer.

Voller believes Adler could snub Man Utd move

Bayer Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller believes goalkeeper Rene Adler could sign a contract extension with the Bundesliga side.

Adler has been strongly linked with a move to Premier League giants Manchester United in recent months.

Adler’s current contract with Leverkusen is set to expire in 2012 and has a buy-out clause of around

Can new signings help keep West Ham in the Premier League?

West Ham have completed the signing of Tottenham striker Robbie Keane on-loan for the rest of the season.

The 30 year-old should prove to be a decent signing as the Hammers look to drag themselves out of the relegation zone.

Signings

Keane will be joined at the Boleyn Ground by Senegalese striker Demba Ba and midfielder Gary O’Neill. Ba joined the club after failing a medical at Premier League rivals Stoke City.

The deal was initially set to be a loan move but he has in fact joined for a fee in the region of

Milan sign Juventus reject; Magath reveals shock transfer close to fruition

Milan sign Juventus reject

Milan have announced the signing of defender Nicola Legrottaglie on their official website.

The 34-year-old was given permission to leave after Juventus signed Andrea Barzagli as a cover for Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci.

The defender who was mostly used as a fringe player at Juventus has completed his medical at Milan before signing a six-month contract with the Rossoneri.

He has thus become Milan’s fifth signing of the transfer window, albeit a controversial one, after Antonio Cassano, Urby Emanuelson, Mark van Bommel and Didac Villa had arrived at San Siro.

Even if the former Italy international is likely to be used as a back-up player at San Siro, the Rossoneri fans will not be too happy with the signing of Juventus reject.

Magath reveals shock transfer close to fruition

Schalke boss Felix Magath has confirmed the club are set to sign former Bayern midfielder Ali Karimi.

Magath, who coached Karimi at Bayern, believes the Iran international will add much needed creativity to the squad.

“Ali Karimi is on the verge of signing for Schalke. It’s just a matter of wrapping up some formalities,” Magath told Kicker.

“We have some problems to get the ball from midfield to attack at the moment. Karimi could really help us with that.”

Karimi is expected to sign a six-month deal at Veltins Arena subject to passing a medical.

Ali Karimi can be seen as a controversial signing for Schalke seeing that he failed to prove his potential while at Bayern and that he is now 32 years old, but it appears that Felix Magath is ready to take a gamble with him.

Bolton closing in on Chelsea forward

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is on the verge of completing a loan deal to Bolton.

The 21-year-old striker has undergone a medical at Reebok Stadium and he is expected to be in the squad to face Wolves on Wednesday.

Despite showing massive potential this season, the young striker hasn’t started a single Premiership game this season, although he did score a couple of goals in the Cup competitions.

With Drogba, Anelka and Kalou in the side, Carlo Ancelotti decided to allow Sturridge to join Bolton in his search for first team football.

Sturridge is expected to provide cover for Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies, although he should get much more playing time than at Chelsea.

This move could benefit all three sides with Sturridge set to gain much needed first team experience at Reebok.

Park Ji-Sung retires from international football

Great servant for South Korea

What a fantastic servant Manchester United’s Park Ji-Sung has been for South Korea. He played his one hundredth game for his country last week in their Asian Cup semi-final defeat against Japan and has now announced his retirement from international football.

Problems

The Manchester United wide man says that continuing knee problems have given him little choice in the matter.

“It was a great honour to play for the national football team. If there were no injuries, I could have continued, however, I have no choice.”

Contract

Park has signed a contract at Manchester United that could keep him at the club for another four years and the twenty-nine year old believes that this decision will enable him to do so.

The main reason he is moving on, he says, is that he has done what he can for the national side and now feels he should let younger men take over and have their chance.

“Above all, I would like to make way for team-mates who have been making remarkable progress.”

Map

He certainly has done his bit to put South Korean football on the map. After joining Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven in 2005 he has picked up three Premier League winners medals and three League Cup medals as well. In 2009 he became the first man from his country to play in a Champions League final.

Since making his international debut in 2000 Park has played a major part in a fine decade for South Korea. He was in the team which reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2002, the best performance by any Asian team in the competition, and also played in the 2006 and 2010 tournaments.

Announcement

Following the announcement, South Korean manager Kwang-rae said,

“Park Ji-sung has done a remarkable job for the prosperity of Korean football. It would be better if I could retain him in the national team but other players have done an excellent job.”

Midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung said,

“He has been really a great player for ten years and I am really proud of him and he showed to the people all over the world that Korean football is getting better.”

Park can now get down to the business of trying to extend Manchester United’s unbeaten run and adding a fourth Premier League winners medal to his collection.

CFC on deadline day: Live, as it happens

It’s about to go down, kids.

All of the above?

And a good morning to you all.

It’s deadline day, a day usually chock full of unsubstantiated rumors and utter bullshit – no doubt spouted from the mouths of Sky’s crack team of on-site reporters. Not this year. I believe we are in for one of the most entertaining deadline days in recent memory if not ever, even if the famous CFC fails to secure the services of anyone.

We here at The CO have decided to follow the madness live – for the most part – keeping you informed of the news as it happens (hopefully). So stay with us for all of the latest deadline day gossip regarding Chelsea. Check back throughout the day. Refresh often. If it happens and Chelsea is involved, we should have it. If we don’t, add it in the comments section and we’ll throw it up.

Happy hunting to Roman & Co.

6:45am (GMT): The latest on the Torres saga. It appears that a deal can be struck before the end of the window. A straight cash deal looks likely – Anelka, Sturridge, Kalou not to be involved – with figures between £45 (Telegraph) and £50 million (Guardian, Independent) being quoted. The Guardian goes on to say that “Chelsea hopeful that Liverpool’s asking price will drop to as low as £37m as 11pm approaches, although that appears unlikely.” We’ll keep you posted, obviously.

7am: Bolton, after failing to secure a loan move for Arsenal striker Carlos Vela, have turned their sights onto Daniel Sturridge. Could happen, particularly if Torres makes the move, but I can’t really see it. Sturridge did miss Saturday’s game at Everton with an apparent knee injury – questionable. Hey, at least if Studge did move to the Reebok, he would get a game or three, though.

7:20am: Dimitri Payet. The 23-year-old Saint-Etienne winger has been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain (bid rejected) and Liverpool. Now, according to L’Équipe reckons we’ve made an £8m bid for the player. Tricky player, who is good on both wings. Played a bit as a second striker this season.

8:02am: Not much to report, except that I’m fucking tired (it’s 3:02am in my neck of the woods). I’ve been reviewing the latest with regard to David Luiz. The deal was proclaimed dead on Friday by Benfica, but I never believed that and neither have the papers. A Bola figure we’ll make a last-ditch effort to secure the Brazilian defender today, with Gary Cahill our second choice. Tie up Luiz then.

8:10am: Sky Sports expects Chelsea to finalize a deal for Torres before the end of the window. Expect being the key word here.

8:12am: Former Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia is on Radio 5. His take on why Fernando Torres is ready to bail on Liverpool: “Torres left Atletico looking for trophies and titles and he has not achieved any of them and maybe it is time to think about it. Liverpool are in a position where they are struggling in the league and maybe with all the changes they have done it is a good moment to leave.” Sounds about right.

8:26am: Ben Smith of The Times, nine minutes ago via Twitter: “#LFC will sell Torres to #CFC today if their valuation is met AND Dalglish can sign replacements in time”

8:30am: Inside Futbol say Payet has pleaded with Saint-Etienne to allow him to join PSG.

9:11am: Torres just entered Liverpool’s training facility at Melwood. AHHHHHHHHHH

**9:15am: French football journailst Tom Williams, a minute ago via Twitter: “Saint-Etienne’s Dimitri Payet, reportedly subject of bid from Chelsea yesterday, tells L’Equipe: ‘I’ve made my choice. I want to join PSG.’” I guess that’s one we can definitively rule out then.

9:30am: Sky Sports bloke at Cobham says he’s overheard chatter from our players that suggests they think the Torres deal will happen. This clearly means we don’t have a chance in hell of pulling this one off before the deadline.

**9:31am: Here’s some interesting news. Darren Lewis of The Mirror, a minute ago via Twitter: “Daniel Sturridge set to end talk of a move to #lfc. Having a medical at Bolton ahead of a loan deal.” Surely we wouldn’t allow this move to go through if we weren’t confident of securing Torres?

9:35am: Dan Levene, also known as BluesChronicle on Twitter, says the club will neither confirm nor deny whether negotiations for David Luiz have ceased.

10:02am: Kenny Dalglish presser in progress right now. Has had nothing new to say regarding the Torres situation (no Jersey Shore).

10:07am: Ben Smith of The Times reports via Twitter that Liverpool have removed all promotional images/video from their official website. Nonsense.

**10:20am: Darren Lewis of The Mirror, two minutes ago via Twitter: “Sorry to all of you asking. It appears Liverpool have accepted a bid for Torres. Just trying to confirm it but our men say yes.” I like Lewis, but I’m going to need a little more confirmation here.

10:25am: Watching this Dalglish presser on Sky Sports, the man looks weathered. It must’ve been one hell of a night. A quote of note: “People move and people come but the most important people at lfc are the ones who want to be here.”

10:47am: DannyTheJourno, a reputable CFC supporter on Twitter, has heard from a Portuguese journailst that a deal for Torres has been agreed. More coming as we get it, of course.

11am: Ian McGarry, two minutes ago via Twitter: “senior source at #cfc told me they have not made a new bid for Torres and are considering their position. #lfc”

11:10am: Ben Smith of The Times is 100 percent certain that Liverpool have launched a £30m bid for Andy Carroll. Radio 5 and Sky Sports say the same. Intriguing.

11:18am: Regarding that bid from Liverpool for Carroll. Speaking with a friend a couple of months ago, I said I wouldn’t have minded seeing Chelsea make around a £15m bid for the Newcastle striker in this window. But £30m? Fuck me, that’s insane. Darrent Bent, bargain.

11:28am: Bolton manager Owen Coyle doing his best Redknapp on Sky Sports regarding Danny. Calls him potentially the best young striker in England.

11:30am: Eurosport.fr reporting that we have turned our attention back toward Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin. Spanish radio say a bid of around €18m has been made. Alternative to Luiz? Also rumors linking us to Payet are still swirling, despite the earlier news of the player seeking a move to PSG.

11:49am: Apparently Torres is not taking part in training today.

11:53am: Couple of journalists on Twitter say Saint-Etienne have confirmed that we have made a bid for Payet. Liverpool also interested.

11:55am: I am famished. Food a priority. Back in 15-20 minutes. By then we will probably have inked Torres, a defender and an attacking midfielder. Lovely.

12:36pm: Food digested. Stomach pleased. What did I miss? Not much it seems. The Mirror is reporting that Torres has apparently left Melwood in a helicopter. Stylish getaway. Elsewhere, Bolton are closer to tying up Sturridge on loan. Nothing new on the defender front.

magnum
Torres’ escorts to west London.

1:10pm: So there was a helicopter that departed Melwood. It was, however, no Nandocopter. That shatters my entire universe. Then again, it was The Mirror reporting that so you take it with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, Torres has just left the Liverpool training facility in an Audi. Boom.

1:17pm: BBC correspondent Dan Roan, two minutes ago via Twitter: “Reliably informed that talks on image rights and salary (approx 175k/week) are all that remains for Torres deal to be completed #bbcfootball”

1:25pm: Bruma’s proposed loan move to West Bromwich looks to be off. Would that be because we have been unable to secure one our defensive prospects?

1:30pm: Absolutely knackered. Going to get a bit of rest. Of course, everything will go down while I’m passed out. Super. See you guys in a few hours – that is unless I manage to hear something from Sky while attempting to sleep.

3:12pm: Just woke up for a second. What have I missed?

3:15pm: The club have confirmed that Jacob Mellis has joined Barnsley until 8 May.

**3:20pm: OK. So what I can gather in a half-zombie state is that Liverpool and Newcastle are in discussions that would theoretically bring Andy Carroll to Merseyside in a £35m deal. You read that right. Meanwhile, we are flushing out the £50m move for Torres, with medical on the cusp of taking place. I think. This really has been a dull fucking day, eh?

3:22pm: Another quick thought on the potential move of Carroll to Liverpool. And, to think, I thought we were overpaying for Torres. Comedy.

3:40pm: Interesting to see that the player + cash rumors have resurfaced. A couple of sources are suggesting the figure for Torres will be £48m and Nicolas Anelka. Can’t say I like the idea of that, particularly with Sturridge taking his ego to Bolton. Sound bogus anyway, what with the deal for Carroll looking increasingly likely.

5:52pm: I’m awake again! Deadline day is destroying my life.

**5:56pm: The latest on Torres. Liverpool have agreed to snatch Andy Carroll from Newcastle for £25 plus add-ons. Again, you did read that correctly. What’s this mean for Torres? Well, he’s awaiting permission from Liverpool to undergo a medical at Chelsea. It looks, as of right now, that this deal will be completed barring any hiccups in the medical.

6pm: Finally something on David Luiz. Duncan Castles of The Times says via Twitter that reports out of Lisbon suggest Chelsea have reached an agreement with Benfica for the player. No confirmation.

6:05pm: Side Lowe, seven minutes ago via Twitter: “Carroll is official. Torres should be in the not too distant.”

david-luiz-011
Chelsea, you say? Fucking mint!

6:27pm: Sorry, guys. We had a few problems with the site as web traffic begins to pick up. Quite a bit has happened in the past 20 or so minutes.

6:40pm: Nandocopter? Try Luizcopter. Significant news this. A deal for David Luiz appears to have been struck between Benfica and Chelsea. The defender is currently flying into London to thrash out personal terms, according to Sky Sports. The deal, all but dead as late as yesterday, now is being reported as done by a number of outlets including A Bola. Terms of the deal look like this – €20m up front with €5m due in 2013. Nemanja Matic has also been included in the deal. We’ll alert you when we hopefully receive confirmation from the club.

6:45pm: So, deals for Luiz and Torres? That would represent an incredible window for the club. Two world-class players.

6:50pm: So taking a closer look at what Liverpool are doing today. To spend around £75m on Carroll, Suarez and Adam? Seriously. Let’s just say that if I’m throwing out that kind of cash, I’d like to secure at least one world-class player. I mean, I know Dalglish has a good track record with forwards – Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Shearer – but this wreaks of desperation/panic from a mid-table club in decline. I can see what they’re trying to do, and it may well work out well for them, but I thought Dalglish was a temporary fix? He can’t possibly be now, can he? Just weird.

6:52pm: BREAKING – The shirt burning has commenced on Merseyside. Classic.

7:15pm: Sky Sports News have given us an ETA on Luiz. 9 p.m., they say.

7:26pm: SSN says that Liverpool and Chelsea have agreed a fee for Torres. Around £50m.

7:33pm: Time for lunch. Back in 30.

7:35pm: Liverpool release an official statement on Torres. “Liverpool Football Club tonight confirmed they have agreed a fee with Chelsea for the sale of Fernando Torres. The player has now been given permission to speak to the London club.” Nothing standing in our way now. Who would have thought this was possible just a week ago? Stunned that this looks like it is actually going to happen.

I mean does that mean Torres will score load of goals for Chelsea in every single game? Because if thats not the case then he would be a failure the same way Shevchenko was a failure.
If Torres does come, I will expect nothing but greatness from him otherwise he should expect my constant never ending bashing and criticism.
I mean look at Kaka. Real Madrid bought him for 70 millions Euros, and since 2009 he has only played 27 games and scored 9 goals. He is currently on the bench, and sucks.
I mean I would expect self made billionaires and business executives to learn a few lessons from those buys.
We are paying F*** too much!
JackYes, we are. But at least we're not shipping out around 50m on Andy Carroll and Charlie Adam.SethESPNSoccernet claim that Torres is on his way to cfc facilities, and the deal is just about done. they say 80m in fees and wages, all totaled up.HollinsReviewing Carlo's history at Milan, I suppose he never could've been expected to initiate the youth movement and financial self-sufficiency long promised at Chelsea.

That said, with Torres and Luiz, you couldn't do much better at replacing the creakiness of Drogba and Terry. I wonder, though, if this will affect the dressing room. Didier and John are basically being told that they're in the neighborhood of past it.JackCockney?ChelseaI just hope we do not spend anywhere near 40 millions pounds for Torres.
I want him, but thats seriously too much. Especially given his form and injuries woes the past year. 30 millions pounds is fine but no more! If we were to go over 30 millions pounds, there must be some performance-based conditions (goals and games played).
Look how much cheaper Milan got Ibrahimovic from Barca i.e only 24 millions euros.
So let's not be fooled by Liverpool, and get scammed us out our money.
Thanks for the update!my blood is blueDoesn't matter what you hope. If Bent is 24 mil and Carroll 30 mil, then Torres is definitely worth more than 50 million. I dont care if we pay 70million but get him. And I am not even a fan of Torres. And then we should go out and grab dome more in next few hours. Winter transfer market is never meant to be cheap.GaryThe idea of Torres at CFC is very exciting, but Luiz is a more important transfer. I think we should give Benfica what they want for Luiz. Who cares if they are playing hardball. Let’s get Luiz and talk about Benfica afterwards (play the ball).kingbluetaking our minds off torres for a moment. we are still short in defence and we need a realible cover for cech. what about the stoke keeper and luiz, does anybody know anythingJackEverything we know is in the post above. When news break, we'll have it - as long as I'm still awake, ha.my blood is blueIf CFC are looking for an impact player to lift their season, Torres is the man even with his poor form. Though, a Luiz deal seems more likely than Torres moving to the Bridge. Hell, Luiz might have been playing @ everton if we haDn't fucked up the payment. I still believe Luiz @25 is a better value for money than Cahill who wasn't that impressive against us last week.

Hopefully, we do get someone before time up. The more the better! Because I can't see us winning anything with the current squad with 2 youngsters already gone for loan. We are a few tackles away from having only 11 fit players and no one on the bench.

KTBFFH!!JackPersonally, I don't rate Cahill. Luiz and Torres would be spectacular.GaryI don't rate Cahill either. I will be disappointed if we don't get Luiz, especially after coming so close. There are few defenders with his kind of ball skill.Jihadjust imagine if torres arrives(hopefully): 4-4-2

Pls work out the Luiz deal or it might cost us more in the end when we score but can't keep a clean sheet.Kieranbenhamhopefully we sign torres so we might as well sell sturrigeGuestWouldn't be surprised if after picking up Torres we loaned Sturridge to Bolton. Transfermas Morning, Rolling Updates Edition

By: Noel | January 31st, 2011
    Tweet Luis Suarez

After a rather dull start, the transfer window has turned into quite the circus for your average Liverpool fan. And today could be somewhat interesting, to put it mildly.

In “News that has unfortunately been overshadowed by the Torres situation” news, new record signing Luis Suarez has passed his medical, and having already agreed to personal terms it’s the last obstacle before officially signing on as the newest member of Liverpool Football Club. Which is, you know, good. Though that part about “record signing” is also a reminder of just how odd it is that Torres would put up with the last 18 months only to try and bolt once owners willing to prove their ambition had arrived, as well as being a real shame in that what should be one of the happiest times for a Liverpool fan in those past 18 months has suddenly been turned on its head.

Elsewhere, the most common rumours have Liverpool making a run at Ashley Young and one last try for Charlie Adam before the day ends, regardless of what happens on the Torres front. Just how developments–if any–regarding the striker will affect those or any other deals that may or may not be in the works remains to be seen, though rest assured a lot of people will say a lot of things today, and even the most reliable and well meaning will probably be wrong at least as often as not. Then there will be the less reliable and less well meaning sorts to sort through, too. Heck, this seems like the sort of sorting thing the Guardian will probably start a liveblog for at some point, though not having Ryan Babel’s helicopter to track this time around might take some fun out of proceedings.

In other outgoings news, the reports that Paul Konchesky was on his way back to Fulham and Stephen Warnock would be arriving in his place have largely gone quiet after everybody thought it was a done deal, and though there have been occasional quiet whispers about finding a new home for Cole, nothing serious has seemed to develop on that front. Though of course all should recall just how quiet things got on the Suarez front right before good news broke, and also that with the Boston Red Sox, FSG are somewhat notorious for making major moves at the last possible second.

In any case, in any other season landing by far the biggest name to date in the always difficult January window would be reason for celebration. This year, it’s turned out to be rather more complicated than that, which might well be entertaining if it was some other club being robbed of their momentum, but there you go. Whatever happens over the next little bit, do try to play somewhat nice, though as that’s usually not a problem around these parts I suspect that shouldn’t be a problem today. Also, Ed and I won’t be able to be around every minute of the day, particularly early on, so if you do see some reliable and genuinely new breaking news you think everybody needs to know, please pass it along in the comments section.

Otherwise, consider this an open thread for talking about the day’s early developments. You might want to have both your celebratory and misery alcohol at hand. Or, you know, just some sort of crazy and magical drink that would work for either situation, if you want to keep things simple. Here’s hoping we all manage to get through today in one piece.

Update: Ben Smith of The Times says Torres will only be sold today “if their valuation is met AND Dalglish can sign replacements in time.” Well, if it has to be, then that’s about the best that could be hoped for. Hopefully it either is that, or he’s here until at least the summer.

Update (by Ed): Just sabotaging Noel’s post to confirm that Paul Konchesky has been loaned to Nottingham Forest and Daniel Ayala’s headed to Derby, as reported by Kenny Dalglish in his presser. Comments on Suarez and Torres also included via the above link, and as expected, they’re absolute class from the manager. Back to drinking. Er, off to work.

Update (by Ed): Nothing concrete to report as of yet, but talk about Fernando Torres heading to Chelsea has ramped up, as has the talk of Liverpool trying to pry Andy Carroll away from Newcastle. News of Alan Pardew’s scheduled presser this afternoon being canceled has obviously confirmed that the signing is imminent. Or other stuff.

In the meantime, here’s a video of that ominous BWWWAAAAHHHHing noise from Inception set to various mundane events. Seems appropriate for the inevitable horrors we’re about to witness.

Update (by Ed): The Twitter just exploded with news that Liverpool have agreed a £35m fee for Andy Carroll. Or they matched Newcastle’s valuation. Or that’s the cost of the helicopter ride from Newcastle to Liverpool. The Times/Guardian/Mirror all simultaneously releasing the news, and LFC.tv has crashed. That’s big bucks.

Update (by Ed): Right, an update—seems to be quite a bit of outrage about the amount of cash Liverpool are willing to splash on Andy Carroll, given that he’s currently injured and doesn’t necessarily have the most illustrious career. Given that nobody really knows the specifics of the structure of the offer, I guess we wait to see.

And as has been the case over the last few days, Luis Suarez takes a backseat unfortunately. Reports have him taking the number 7 shirt, though, which is actual news that we can get behind. Hopefully he fares better than the last inhabitant…

Update (by Ed): Now there’s news that the latest offer for Andy Carroll has been rejected by Newcastle. Turns out that his rumored visit to Liverpool is now a sightseeing trip, I suppose.

Nothing new on Torres, Ashely Young, Charlie Adam, so the unrelenting assault on your blood pressure continues.

Anyone else looking forward to today being over?

There must be better options out there for that sort of cash?

As it stands Nando is still our No9....here's hoping it stays that way. What's the world record for keeping one's fingers crossed bearing in mind that I have to drive into work in 4hrs?dsm9412I still think the move is to talk to him and say that it's just not happening this window and they'll shop him around in summer. Hope he is lightened up by Dalglish and Suarez for the rest of the season, and if not go ahead and transfer him.

Trying to make some of the most important long term decisions with your side seems like a terrible thing to do in eight hours.EdSo, £35m for Andy Carroll.alcatrazzledazzleHopefully that's in Turkish liraEdWhat else would they use?RoscoJust seen it scroll by on the sky sports info bar.
Crazy money. What you think?BaldrickCarroll making his way to Liverpool.... possibly to agree terms (Sky Sports reliable source)EdThat's what we call an oxymoron.BaldrickJeez no need to get personal pal...EdLike you say, it's crazy money, but informed by the Torres debacle and likely driven by the fact that he's young, British, and that Darren Bent was signed for crazy money as well.

I also think I should have taken today off from work, as it's not yet 9:30 and my forehead vein is quite close to exploding.RussellRI feel like there are alot of better strikers, who would be much better to go with Suarez... this carrol thing, no thanks. Earlier someone also said something about GOmez from Bayern, now this won't happen, but if it did I'd shoot myself in the face. He's lazy as scheisse for his own national team so I don't want him here. NOt worth it.RoscoWhere's that came from ed?EdStarted with the generic Guardian/Times tweeters, gradually Tony Barrett and Rory Smith chimed in to say that's Newcastle's valuation, and apparently Liverpool have ponied up. Nothing agreed yet, still waiting to see if Newcastle agree.xantheinaTwitter Trends in the UK:

wait... what?RoscoTorres' helicopter to land at cobham in the next half an hour.
Good luck with your new team of ageing rejects you turncoat bastard!BaldrickJust hope that Kenny has something up his sleeve... he was quoted as saying that Torres wouldn't be allowed to go unless they had a replacement. Personally I reckon this could be a good piece of business for FSG as despite standing up to the myth before I do feel that we are a bit too reliant on G&T. Suarez is a massive talent all we need is a recognised striker in the mould of Aldo/Rushie to play up front. Although a fantastic striker Torres is moody, injury-prone and it's now pretty clear he has been looking for a move like this for some time. Thanks for the memories and good luck Nando.... I have a feeling you may need it.RoscoHave to agree with you on all points there, even though it does leave a bitter taste in the mouth. FSG seem to be sticking to their morals as we are being linked with quality young players.

Just hope kennys ace up the sleeve ain't Andy CarrolBaldrickWhat's not to like? The guy's been banging them in regularly enough??RoscoHalf a season of form in the premier league doesn't merit 30 million smackers in my book.
Maybe a touch cynical considering his ageBaldrickSuarez to wear the coveted No 7............no pressure!!RoscoIm Sure the main man will let him know exactly what it meansRedDownUndaJust read that ManU have rejected bid for Howard Webb.TawfiqI wonder how Jovanovic would look as central striker and Suarez on the left and Kuyt on the right.. It sounds crazy but it might be an option.. Dont look like we will be signing anyone before deadline .. I seriously hope at least Charlie Adam.. Because simply I dont think Villa and Newcastle will allow their peeps move out that easily..
Looking at videos for players proposed to liverpool only one i liked relatively was Negredo but having Carrol would be bril, though it seems out of reach as he loves his childhood team.. Cant blame him.. Gomez from Bayern is not allowed to leave as I read earlier, he is my fav to land honestly.. but I'd rather have someone with a fighting spirit and I would like to see Liverpool not depend on 1 or 2 players, because we will never win any trophies like that..
Having a south american forward will remind us (hopefully) of liverpool golden days..
Lets hope for the best, im planning on staying online till the closure of winter transfers because I have a feeling something will turn up..
Cheers
YNWAYannI always thought foreplay was meant to be enjoyable but this is slowly killing me.RoscoUrban legend that . . . Foreplay's well over-rated.YannA bit like Andy CarrollRoscoWell if we are already bidding with the Torres money I'd say his leaving is just a formality nowRedDownUndaSuarez and Carrol. I can see it now, if one doesn't bite your ear off, the other will punch your lights out. Haven't had this much bastardry around since Tommy Smith. Ahh, the good old days. 30 Mill though????RoscoAndy freaking carrol!!RedDownUndaAndy freakin' Carroll what???Rosco"Newcastle reject 30million pound bid from Liverpool for Andy Carrol"YannBeing reported that a £30million bid has been made for him by LFC. WTF?RoscoI'm sorry, Darren bent is a proven premier league striker and I thought 24 was over the odds for him. 30m for Andy carrol is just ludicrousjustinIt's certainly going to be sad to see Torres leave but it has definitely made it all the more interesting looking at how the Club have been handling it. Liverpool are clearly a club on the up and while that might not be quick enough for a certain Fernando, what awaits is an exciting future for anyone related with the Club.

Tough, but exciting times for sure. Most people now would've probably gotten over the emotional state of how Torres has handled the situation (still can't believe he'd not want a proper sending off with dignity and all) and if we're able to get a couple of better players like those mentioned (young, carrol, etc) it will definitely won't be the end of the Club but a rebirth of sorts.

It might just be the time Liverpool cease to be over reliant on Gerrard and Torres and have a real team instead. Thinking back on how Henry left Arsenal which allowed more players to blossom comes to mind as well.PDubz18Inter Milan offloaded Ibrahimovic after the 08-09 season because the team was way too reliant on his heroics. The next season, boom treble. Torres might be the same way.

And also, when Henry left Arsenal, they stopped winning trophies.RoscoAyala off to derby on loanYannRumours on Twitter that Liverpool have removed all Fernando Torres promotional images and videos from their website. Can anyone verify this?RoscoHaven't heard anything concrete. Though regardless whether he leaves or not he's probably not the best candidate to be promoting us at the moment.BjornhofvendahlKonchesky out on loan - finally.http://www.skysports.com/story...RoscoDalgleish press conference coming up If anyone can get sky sportsJimson46I think Luis Suarez would bring some talent to Liverpool and would be a great attacking option for Dalglish. Liverpool would benefit from his skills and so would future < a href="http://www.sportsidols.co.uk/l... Memorabilia for Liverpool fans :)RoscoAfter following toothless Chaz Adam for years at Rangers and St Mirren if we fork out 10 million for him I may blow my brains out. Ashley Young would be an exciting prospect.

Still wouldn't rule out an audacious Ageuro bid alsoYannRosco, do tell. What's got you spooked re Adam? Is he lazy?RoscoWell in his defence, he wasn't played in his current and clearly best position. The team is built around him at Blackpool, something that sure as hell ain't gonna happen at anfield. Stick him elsewhere on the park and he's worse than useless.

See koncheskys off to Nottingham forest, certainly more his arena!YannGood. Now he can go crying to his mummy and hide under her stinking skirt.

On Torres, part of me can’t stop thinking the Hodgson disaster with its dramatic lowering of ambition for a once proud club has much to do with Torres’ state of mind and once momentum for change builds in a player it is hard to quell. Anyway...whatever.Kaihttp://soccernet.espn.go.com/n...blog comments powered by Disqus
