News/rumors from around the web – Feb 15th

youngChelsea dropped 2 more points yesterday. Looks like it’s coming down to either us, City or Arsenal. I didn’t get to watch the encounter against Fulham, but the consensus was that Torres looked a bit out of sorts again. Luiz on the other hand, looks to be a very solid signing and could be a permanent fixture in their backline for years to come. If they can get Torres comfortable with the players around him and inject some new blood into their midfield come the summer, they will be a renewed force next season.

We’ve also been linked with a bunch of players (some the same as before) this summer. Not exactly sure who’s top of the list and how much of it is true, but these names have popped up again in the past 48 hours:

-Ashley Young
-Charlie Adam
-Alex Oxlade Chamberlain
-Hugo Lloris
-Pepe Reina
-Biram Kayal
-Gareth Bale

Obviously, a keeper and a midfielder remain our top priorities. I personally am a fan of Lloris for the long term just because he seems very assured and has had high pressured top level exposure. Reina is also an incredibly good keeper. However, I just don’t see Liverpool selling him to us unless it was for crazy money. In which case, Ferguson would just say no.

Charlie Adam would be a nice pickup although if Tottenham come back in to add to their already massive squad of midfielders, I see us just walking away and conceding. Don’t know too much about Kayal, but he’s had a string of fine games for Celtic and could be a very possible target since he won’t have the inflated price tag that most of our usual targets are associated with.

baleAshley Young would be a nice pickup to replace Giggs out on the left and allow the Welshmen to spend more time in the middle of the park where he still gets to be creative without having to track back as much. Young would definitely be a more affordable option than Bale, who will have a massive price tag attached to him this offseason because of how well he’s performed thus far. That valuation could skyrocket even further depending on how he performs in the remainder of the season especially in the CL games. If he can continue to produce the goods on the big European stage, you can bet the likes of Madrid and Milan will be giving ‘Arry a call. Will Sir Alex want to get into a bidding war against the likes of Madrid? Not a chance.

In an ideal world, we sign Lloris, Neuer or De Gea to take over VDS. We then pick up Bale to continue the Welsh tradition down our left wing and pick up either Alexis Sanchez or Marek Hamsik to be the long term Scholes replacement. If we can convince Rennes to sell us M’Vila, we would have brought in some great young talent that could form the core for the next generation.

In reality, we devote most of our money to sign a top class keeper. Then, we take what’s left behind and try to unearth a midfield gem that no one has ever heard of before. Either that or we try to offer Carrick, Gibson and whomever else in part exchange for someone like Young or Adam.

Of course everything changes if we end up getting sold by the Glazers to the incredibly cash-rich Qater Holdings…

Tweet « Cause for concern | Home | BillyPersonally I don't want either Young or Adams... Young is someone who has been consistent every season but hasn't improved. Adams looks like someone who revels in a team that play around him which we of course won't do. But then I am not Sir Alex and can be proven wrong.
Either of Hamsik or Sanchez would be just amazing.blog comments powered by Disqus
