Poll: Will The Special One return to the Blues?

By: Jamie | March 12th, 2011

The usual rumors about Jose Mourinho have stirred up again, thanks to “reputable” sources (The Sun, Goal.com…).

Shut up, rumors

Apparently Fernando Torres saying he would love to work with Mourinho, behind the scenes “turmoil” at Real Madrid, plus Jose allegedly saying that his future lies in England means an immediate return to the Premier League at the end of the season. The obvious links would be back to Chelsea or to United if Fergie suddenly decides to retire. Other apparently interested clubs include Tottenham (because I’m sure they’re desperate to reward Redknapp with the sack for what he’s done for them), Liverpool and, of course, Manchester City.

Do you think Jose will come back to Chelsea? Next season or ever?

Then the other question is: would YOU take him back? Or is it time to really, seriously move on and out of the Mourinho shadow?

I’m sure there are plenty of Chelsea fans that would welcome back Mourinho with open arms. He brought us great success. He didn’t win the Champions League with the Blues, so maybe he would want to give that another go if Carlo doesn’t win it. But another thing that a lot of Chelsea fans want is more stability in terms of coaching. Mourinho would never be in it for the long-term. He always wants new challenges at new clubs in new destinations. Do you want him coming back to the club for a few years and then heading out again?

Tweet « Rumor Roundup: Carlo Out in the Summer? | Home | donBy the way congrats on Mou for playing 150 home games in league without defeat.AjJack, I would love to sit down with you with a few pints and argue all day about this, plain facts are that I find some chelsea supporters a few apples short of a picnic and your the picnic hamper. I find others ungrateful and just plain stupid luckily your not in that list.

Ill tell you why....

In a recent interview in real madrid Tv, he said he thought at chelsea he found home and would stay for life but never expected to get the boot. he got the boot not because of results, 1 draw against rosenburg and 1 defeat against aston villa is not really a sackable offence in my book. Roman wanted to show world it was his money not mourinho bringing success, that explains why avram grant came in as an experiment to show the world any manager can bring titles if they had money, the experiment failed.

Yes Avram did take them to final of champions league but lets be honest, it was more the players and steve clark using every bit of knowledge mourinho taught them over the years which made them win with or without a manager. When Grant lost the carling cup final Roman bought a special ferrari model for Mourinho when he was manager of Inter and begged him to come back. They fixed their relationship but the trust could not be fixed.

anyway everone knows Italy is not Mourinhos true home and he hated Italy from the odd talk shows which involved strippers to managers and even presidents and refs taking pots at him behind his back but pretending to be his friend in front of his face. Spain is no different and everyone knows england is his true home.

The point is he would have gladly stayed in chelsea if he was given the chance and he says that in many interviews that chelsea was his home. He went to Italy and spain to go for different challenges and win titles in different countries, increase his football knowledge in the process and who can blame him. He wants to better himself and challenge himself.

After spain he said he will come back to England where I feel he will like to settle down with one club and work long term as hes acheived everything he wanted.

Also dont forget in terms of age , hes only 47 , still young for a coach and still has another 15 years to coach.

So I will ask you this Jack....

1. Why do you think he wont be a long term coach when he comes back to england even though he said he will come back to his spiritual home after spain so many times. he has done what he wanted in europe and now it will be his time to start to think of settling in one place after all it cant be good for his kids if he keeps travelling to a different country every few years.

2. You said Mourinho would never be in it for the long-term. So you tell me a coach that has been a long term coach for Chelsea since his departure?? apart from Alex, Arsene, everton manager have there been many coaches in jobs for a long time around europe?? even guardiloa has a rolling 1 year contract with barcelona -is that long term???

So there you go Jack, My arguments to your blog. Hope your not offended but i know many chelsea fans with your views and I have to put them straight.

don100% agreeJackSo a quick browse of the comments on my dashboard tells me that Aj and don are one and the same. So you are agreeing with yourself, then?Dumitru86schizophrenia, a mental disorder characterised by multiple persons in ones head.JamieI never said I was against the idea of Mourinho coming back long-term, I just don't see it happening. Partly because Jose wants to build his own team his own way, and I don't think Roman would give him that complete freedom. Roman did give control at first, but once he started to meddle more, I think Jose got frustrated. I'm happy that he still loves Chelsea and wanted to stay, I just don't know if I could see him coming back while Roman holds the purse strings.

Feel free to try to set people straight, I have no problem with that. The arguments you pose are good ones.JackSecond, in regard to you putting me straight. Mourinho isn't long term simple as. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. Just look at his resume, he hasn't stayed at one club for more than three years. I wholeheartedly disagree that Mourinho would have 'gladly' remained at the club had he not been sacked. The undermining which may well drive Carlo from the club would have most certainly drove a more headstrong individual like Jose out.

And further, just because he says he wants to return to England to coach doesn't necessarily mean he wants to settle there. The man has stated, on numerous occasions, that he plans to coach the Portugese national team. Where does that fit in to the plan? I love the guy as much as any Chelsea supporter, but come on.AjJack, Mourinho has been a manager now for about 10 years, its still young, an average lifespan of a coach in any club is 2 years max. Please judge him at the end of his career. This is a time when managers cannot survive in clubs for long periods mainly due to trigger happy presidents panicing when 1-2 results go wrong. obviously there are exceptions but look at Van Gaal who almost came close to a treble last year is getting sacked at the end of the season, same with felix mcath even though his schalke team are in the quarter finals of CL for first time. rijkaard couldnt survive 3 years with barca and guardiola is on a rolling yearly contract and dont talk about madrid coaches. apart from alex, wenger, everton manager, you will struggle to find a coach that has been in a job for more than 3 years in the PL.

We all know when your an international manager, you can live in any country and travel around watching your best players and come together during international games. We know Sven has been a manager of various international sides but he was living in england.

We have to look at this as we would in real life, most of us will jump from job to job early in our careers and look for new challenges when were young and sometimes we would find a company that we are happy with and feel a part of it and would never want to leave. I honestly believe Mou has come to his greatest challenge managing madrid, hes been to 2 of the best leagues and experienced everything they thown at him as well as learnt many new techniques and made himself a better coach, after that he will come to england for his last challenge of winning a title again as well as CL with a english club. but which club nobody knows.

If its a long term coach you need then why does hiddink keeps popping up, he is defintely 1 manager who cant stay in one job, sven is another one.JackHere's a thought: How about backing Carlo? Allow him his own staff, give him some assurances and some control. Then see what comes to be. I guess that's too much to ask for at this stage of the discussion, though.AjNo you got me wrong, I do want carlo to stay, hes a good manager. and I know Mou would never come back to chelsea. I was just arguing the fact that you dont think Jose is a long term coach, the answer I was trying to summarise is -judge him at the end of his career and he is more than capable of being a long term coach if he joins a club he feels like home (as he did with chelsea)AjOn another thing, Mourinho loves nothing but to be the perfect coach and to prove doubters wrong.

People used to say hes cannot play attractive football, his madrid team are playing brilliant attacking football, now that is not mentioned when people talk about Mourinho.

People say he only manages sides with money, well he took liera to 5th position in portugese leage (highest ever) and won CL and uefa cup with Porto when benfica were the richest club in portugal. With Inter when he won the CL, he made a profit in transfer market in 2009 by selling Ibra and replacing him with eto, milito, sneider, pandev, lucio. So you see hes not just money orientated, his tranfers have mostly been successful except a few bad apples but one thing is for sure, he has managed to improve every one of his players and get them to play out of their skins.Ajtherefore in addition he would love to show people he could survive in a club long term and build up youngsters like alex and wenger. Im sure he will do that and is more than capable of doing it.ynwakingkennyCan I put both you and Jack straight on something you both remarked on a few days back (Fast Five: Things we learned from Blackpool), when I made what I thought were constructive comments. You referred to me as having forgotten to use caps. For the record, I’ve never used caps and I think you’re confusing me with KING KENNY who always does. If you check, you’ll see I’ve always been respectful to the Blues and made some positive comments about our rivalry (eg. PL Preview: Blackpool v. Chelsea). So come on, if you don’t mind, a bit of fair play please.Ajif your not KING KENNY then apologiesJackTo clarify, I never said you were KING KENNY. I only noted that I initially thought that when you started posting here, but decided to give you the benefit of the doubt. So, no, I don't think you're him and we're glad to have you.ynwakingkennyAppreciated Aj and Jack. Cheers guys.Ajp.s by the way I dont think Mourinho will return to chelsea :-)JackUm, first off, this is not my post. It's Jamie's.JamiePossibly directed at you because you mentioned him not being a long-term coach in the comments of the last post. And both our names start with J. I guess.AjYes apologies, I meant Jacks comments in the last post and obviously Jamie using that in this post as well.arn00bI'm not sure. Will his return be "Return of the King" or "I knew you were gonna come back crawling"?

Will he come back with his head high, ego, personality, experience and all? With all the freedom and power he needs? Come back to take his place as king?

Or will he accept that he come back and accept a humble role as a "senior coach" within the Chelsea hierarchy, where he has to share power with all sorts of Avram Grants, report to them, ask them for players, accept that it's the board's job to deal with transfers and he can only voice his opinion, etc. etc... ?

It makes a world of a difference. The difference between "I told you I was good. I showed ya!" or "Told you you weren't gonna get far without Roman/CFC."

Will he get his own coaching staff or will he have to work with Roman's people (spies?). Will he get to build his team in his own image? Or will he have to do with this team of Ramires, Luiz, Torres, Sturridge... (whose team is that, anyway?)

What makes Mourinho truly special is that he builds teams that work together, not like a collection of great players (cough, City.)

He sells great players like Ibra, replaces them with Eto'o, whom he plays on the wing, with a free transfer for Pandev on the other wing and wins the treble with that.

If Mourinho comes and his first orders of business is to sell Torres, would the powers let him do that?

What if, in addition to that, he wants to buy Llorente (to be a winger) and Darren Bent, plus ask for Mario Gotze and Nuri Sahin, benches Ramires, and bring in Zenden in a coaching position...?

Would they let him do that?

If not, then why get Mourinho? Why get a creative manager/team builder to just coach? Ranieri is free to keep his head down and coach without many complaints.blog comments powered by Disqus
