Italy coach Cesare Prandelli insists his side still have much to do to claim a spot in Euro 2012 despite their 1-0 win over Slovenia on Friday.
The win in Ljubljana, courtesy of a second-half Thiago Motta strike, gave Prandelli’s men a six-point buffer over Slovenia and Serbia at the top of Group C, but the 53-year-old said there was still a lot of work to be done.”Qualification is far from assured,” Prandelli told Rai.”We?ve got a lot of work to do; obviously victories help to improve self-belief. It?s an important game and the lads felt at half-time they could go on to win it.”"We certainly need to correct a few things with cross-field passes, but we had the better of the match in midfield.”"(AC Milan striker Antonio) Cassano worked hard and sacrificed himself for the team, so I am satisfied, as I am with everyone.”Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek conceded his side had been outplayed by the Italians, but was proud of their efforts.”Italy were the more aggressive team, they had more of the ball and were more resolute,” he said.”But, I want to praise the lads for fighting even though we did not play how we wanted. The Italians were more aggressive in duels. We were slow and failed to react on the goal.”Slovenia face Northern Ireland in Belfast on Tuesday, while Italy’s next qualifier is at home against Estonia on June 3.
