Spurs travel to Wolves on Sunday for the late afternoon kick off, in what promises to be an emotional day at Molineux. The life of Dean Richards, a former player with both clubs will be honoured prior to kick off with tribute shirts being shown by former team mates of Bradford City, Tottenham, Southampton and Wolves. Richards’ wife and two sons will also be present at the game to witness the celebration of a life that ended so tragically early. The thoughts of both sets of players and fans alike, will undoubtedly be with the former centre back’s family .

Wolves currently occupy a precarious position near the bottom of the table, but they have achieved results this season that have belied their relegation candidate status. Winning at home to Manchester Utd and Chelsea, plus beating Liverpool away, although Liverpool away is not exactly a tough game these days.

dr bradRedknapp will have a task on his hands to keep his players focused for the trip to Wolves, the Milan game on Wednesday will be nagging at the back of their heads like a dark haired Italian in the san siro. It would be natural for the spurs players to have thier minds elsewhere and it could prove their undoing on Sunday.

There is often a lot of talk surrounding the Premier League games that occur after a midweek European fixture, with the constant mention of a “European hangover”, yet just as the reality can kick in for a mundane League fixture, the weekend after, focus can equally be the issue on the game preceeding the midweek matches.

Harry Redknapp will probably be saying to the press before the game that the Wolves match is more important than the Milan game, and in some ways he would be right. But in all honesty, its not. He tells his players and thedr soton press these lines to try and give the assumption that we are concentrated for this game. As any manager would and often does. To coin a classic footballing phrase, “at the end of the day” all footballers are human beings (with the possible exception of John Terry) and it would be naive of us to assume that they could turn up for an away trip to Wolves with the same intensity that you would expect if Milan were the opposition and it was a European match.

It’s no secret that Spurs’ strikers have a worse scoring rate than the Neville brothers this season and this could be the game to spark some life into a stagnant Tottenham front line. Wolves have an abysmal scoring record and their 4-0 victory over Blackpool last week was their biggest in the top flight for 30 years, which proves its rarity.

Spurs can go head to head with Wolves in a scoring contest and be confident of coming out on top. With the likely abscence of Bale andVan Der Vaart this will also give Redknapp a chance to partner Defoe and Crouch again to see if he can spark some life into the England Internationals. A return to form of either Crouch or Defoe would be timely at this stage of the season and with the likelyhood of a new striker joining the club in the summer, they could well be playing for their places.

Personally I think that Harry will approach this game with an attacking line up as he has done so often this season. I expect to see two up front with Kranjcar included in the midfield, in a bold formation. Harry will have one eye on the midweek game and if he decides to play the same formation that worked so well in Milan, then he may decide to play his more attacking options in the Wolves match. Also if as expected, Bale and Van Der Vaart are available midweek, then he can experiment a little against Wolves.

wolves drWhatever the outcome and whatever the result, the day will surely be remembered for one person and his contribution to the history of both clubs.
