A New Writer, Wigan Want Our Keeper, and Allegations of Rape

By: Mark | October 29th, 2010

Bolton Offside has just signed up a new writer! Hey everyone, I’d like to introduce myself to you all very quickly. I’m Mark and I go to school at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I’m a 4th year New Media Marketing major and a massive BWFC and Philadelphia Union supporter. You can find me on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/markwhyy
Enough about me though. ali-al-habsi

A couple of big stories have broken this week in the world of Bolton Wanderers football. The two biggest though are what we’ll cover today. First off, Wigan want Ali Al-Habsi, who is on a year-long loan at the club, on a permanent deal with reports saying that boss Roberto Martinez is looking to make a deal in the January transfer window for our number two goalkeeper. Owen Coyle wants to see Al-Habsi return to the Wanderers next season to fight for a starting spot. Judging by the form that Al-Habsi has been in thus far this season, he may very well do that.

That being said, it is unlikely that the Oman international will like to sit on the bench for another season after being handed the starting role so many times at Wigan. If Bolton are unable to keep him in the long term, they would at least like to see Al-Habsi return to BWFC in the summer so that the matter can be discussed further.

The other big story that broke is one that is frankly more unfortunate. News broke on Thursday that our Croatian goal machine, Ivan Klasnic, had been in arrested in Manchester City centre on rape charges. Details are still scarce and Ivan is innocent until proven guilty but here is what we do know so far:

The girl is 17 years old.
A spokesman from the Greater Manchester Police stated that:
“Shortly before 5am on Monday 25 October 2010, police were called following a report that a 17-year-old had been raped.
“A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and released on bail pending further inquiries until 1 November 2010.”

Klasnic has been released on bail but there’s no word from him or the team yet. Wait and see, I guess. Good luck, Ivan.ivanklasnic

Good luck Ivan??? If he is not guilty then hopefully justice will prevail. But if he has raped a 17 year old girl why on earth do you wish him good luck?
