Fulham sign Mexican international Calcido

By: timmyg | August 27th, 2010

When Mark Hughes was at Blackburn, one of his skills was signing unknown international players at cut rates. Players like Christopher Samba of Congo-Brazzaville, Jason Roberts of Grenada, David Bentley of England, and Ryan Nelsen of New Zealand all came to Ewood Park and saw their values blossom.

Today, after acquiring Dembele of Belgium and Halliche of Algeria in the past week or so, he continued that trend with the signing of Mexican international Carlos Salcido from PSV Eindhoven for merely £1.6m. Thirty years old, Salcido has been a mainstay with El Tri at the left back position. He is an apt backup and replacement for Paul Konchesky, who is rumored to be headed to Anfield.

I just wonder how Clint and Eddie will get along with their new teammate, considering the two nations’ footballing rivalry. And the fact they’ll be going at each other at practice every day.
