On July 1, when Roy Hodgson was unveiled as Liverpool manager, he said this:
“I don’t want to raid Fulham because that would not be the right thing to do”
Today, defensive stalwart Paul Konchesky has left Fulham for Liverpool in exchange for the youngsters Lauri Dalla Valle of Finland and Alex Kacaniklic of Sweden. Fulham were linked with Dalla Valle in previous transfer windows but was never able to sign him. Interesting that Roy targeted him heavily in the past, yet has now sold him.
Konchesky was signed in July 2007 as part of Lawrie Sanchez’s overhaul of the squad. He was the third-longest tenured defender with the club behind Chris Baird by one day and Aaron Hughes by just a few weeks, and made 97 appearances for the club.
I will miss Paul, especially his robotic goal celebrations.
