After the brief pause for international action, Newcastle return to Premier League duty tomorrow against Blackpool, a fixture we won 4-1 in the Championship last season.
Both teams have made good starts to life back at the top table, both sitting pretty on 4 points, but without wanting to come across as arrogant I have to say this is a fixture that Newcastle really need to be winning.
This season will undoubtedly have difficult phases for us and we can’t afford to be dropping too many winnable points in the fight to stay above the drop zone this year. As such, facing Blackpool is a match that a team with ambitions of survival (be that by 1 place or by more) need to win at home.
Blackpool bring with them a familiar face in Marlon Harewood, who didn’t exactly terrorise opposition defences for us last season, but we should be wary of the seemingly habitual goalscoring returning old-boys problem we regularly seem to suffer from!
As for Newcastle, Chris Hughton should have three new names available tomorrow, Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheik Tiote and Sol Campbell to add strength and depth. I’m hoping for a good performance with a nice win by a couple of goals – preferably with an early goal to settle my nerves!!
