Blackburn 1-0 Bolton

Samba over Johan ElmanderOne point of their possible last 30 road. Let that sink in. Owen Coyle is a motivating genius at the Reebok but away from home, not so much. His inability to make changes to the team has largely been Bolton’s greatest pitfall this season. Anyone that follows @BoltonOffside on Twitter has seen me bemoan the lack of substitutions before the 70th minute. Credit to Coyle at the start of this match for making wholesale changes to the lineup with Adam Bogdan, David Wheater, Ricardo Gardner, and Rodrigo Moreno all entering the starting XI.

After a positive start that saw Rodrigo come close to scoring twice with one effort just wide and the other off of Paul Robinson’s near post. It was Blackburn who would put the “1” next to their name on the scoreline first through Martin Olsson. As Blackburn broke towards the Bolton goal, David Wheater was the man marking the Swede. The big back didn’t close down on Olsson and with defensive options, opened his body to push Olsson towards the center rather than out on the wing. Olsson took a hard, low shot that beat Adam Bogdan. 1-0.

The match ended as it stood at the half 1-0. No ideas and no drive from Bolton and Coyle is lost on the road. This team that’s been brilliant at home all season is the epitome of crap on the road. Now with just one point from a possible last 33 in the match, the only team with a worse away record this season is Wolves. Embarrassing.
