FA Cup semi-final: Magical Mystery Toure

By Shourin Roy on April 16, 2011 3:34 PM | 1 Comment | TrackBacksShare|

Edwin Van Der Sar so magnificent in the Chelsea match manages a weak clearance. Michael Carrick enjoying a rejuvenation of sorts gives the ball up. And then it is Yaya Toure's long legs eating up real estate as he bursts past Carrick and Nemanja Vidic to nutmeg an onrushing Van Der Sar for the winning goal.

City keep Bert Trautmann's hopes up for a FA Cup title. The former City goalkeeper and rehabilitated Nazi paratrooper was in the 1956 squad that won them one of their few meaningful silverware. That it might happen at the expense of their more illustrious neighbours will be that much sweeter.

It will be also be a fitting tribute to Neil Young, whose goal won them their last FA Cup triumph in 1969. He passed away earlier this year after a long battle with cancer.

Add in the Scholes red card and Berbatov's two missed chances and you can safely conclude that United gave it away. Berba was a bit unlucky. Hart made a great save on the first one and the second chance tap in was rising as it came to him. But credit to Citeh for defending well.
