Next Stop Madrid

After another disappointing performance in the Premier League, Tottenham drag their injury ravaged squad to Madrid for the first leg of our Champions League tie against José Mourinho’s Real.

The boy Bale should be fit, which we should be thankful for, but our centre backs are in a sorry state. We are likely to have a back two of Michael Dawson and Sebastian Bassong which is not the best we could have hoped for. The long awaited return of Ledley King has not materialised with the news that our talisman is expected to be out for the rest of the season. Woodgate is injured again, which is a much overused phrase. Gallas is expected to miss out and this should also be too early for Kaboul. Things are not looking good in that respect.

On a more optimistic note, Real Madrid lost their last game whereas we only drew, so it’s in the bag!

Expect to see the ‘injured’ Christiano Ronaldo make an appearance. I’m sure the Portuguese will pull himself together for this game in spite of all José’s protestations to the contrary. That isn’t really a bad thing though. Although we could do without him winning the game for them the historic tie loses something if the top players from either side are absent.

Rafael van der Vaart could be a key player for Spurs. he has something to prove against his old club and should play as he and Crouch have been the preferred pairing and have had a lot of success in the competition so far.

A win would be fantastic, a draw would be good and a 1-0 loss would not be the end of the world considering the effect White Hart Lane often has on the uninitiated. What I will say is this is our biggest game in my lifetime and to be savoured whatever the result.

COYS!

Biggest outing in decades. Proud of the lads. No time for whinging or breaking ranks. An away goal is essential, preferably in a win, but a draw or even back to the Lane two goals down would not be irretrievable.

Hey guys, Madrid fan here. Just wanted to say good luck tomorrow (although less than us haha!) and that I think we’re all hoping for an entertaining match. It’s too bad that the injury crisis has been severe for both sides, but I think it evens out with your defensive injuries and our best offensive players injured/not matchfit. Hopefully it’ll still be a spectacle. Hala Madrid!
