Will Emmanuel Adebayor secure a permanent move to Real Madrid?
Last night Emmanuel Adebayor helped his temporary team Real Madrid hammer Tottenham 4-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.
It will take a minor miracle for Tottenham to recover from such a hefty defeat.
Hero
Not often in recent years has Emmanuel Adebayor been described as a hero but last night he was one of Real’s heroes.
He would have enjoyed his two goals against Tottenham being an ex-Arsenal player and the brace could be the most important goals of his career so far.
Loan
The former-Arsenal striker has enjoyed his loan spell in the Spanish capital since his January transfer window move. He has scored five goals in 14 appearances but more importantly has proved a very effective targetman.
Stay
When asked if he would like to make a permanent move he replied: “Of course I do,” “I don’t know at the moment

Adebayor unloved by City
Emmanuel Adebayor has delivered a stinging rebuke to Manchester City fans, declaring he left the Eastlands because he did not feel loved.
City parted with 25 million pounds to secure the services of Adebayor from English Premier League rivals Arsenal in July 2009, but less than two years later the Togolese striker was shipped off to Real Madrid on loan.
The appointment of manager Roberto Mancini as Mark Hughes’ successor in December 2009 foreshadowed the end of Adebayor’s time at City, despite scoring 14 goals in 34 games in his first season.
Mancini’s preference for a defensive formation relying on one striker, as well as the arrival of star signings Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli, left Adebayor out in the cold and the 27-year-old was hastened out of the door in January.
Adebayor, who has since found the net three times in 13 games with Real, said leaving the Eastlands was much easier than departing the Emirates because the fans were not kind to him.
“When I first joined Manchester City, I was very happy,” Adebayor told The Sun.
“I was pleased, I was playing and I was scoring goals. Suddenly we had a game against Arsenal and you all know what happened (he scored against Arsenal, and was reprimanded for celebrating in front of their fans).”
“From then it went downhill for me. We changed the bosses. Mark Hughes left, Roberto Mancini came along and it was even more difficult.”
“But the difference between leaving Arsenal and going to Manchester is that at Arsenal the fans loved me, I think even today they love me.”
“When I come to Madrid I feel the same atmosphere, I feel the fans love me here as well.”
“If you ask a player there is nothing more important than to feel loved.”
“Here in Madrid I feel very happy because I feel loved by all the players, by the supporters, by the staff members.”
Real host Tottenham in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday, three days after falling eight points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona in a shock 1-0 loss at home to Sporting Gijon.
But despite the setback, Adebayor believes the club are still within reach of a domestic-European double.
“We’ve got a good team, good quality and good team spirit,” he said.
“We are eight points behind Barcelona but we still have to play them at home.”
“It will be very difficult, don’t get me wrong, but we have a good chance to give them a good run until the end of the season.”

Adebayor makes Real move
Manchester City have offloaded out-of-favour striker Emmanuel Adebayor in a loan deal with La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Adebayor, 26, will join Real for the remainder of the season, with an option for a 14.5 million pound transfer in the close season.
“We can confirm that the club has agreed to loan Emmanuel Adebayor to Real Madrid for the rest of the season,” a statement on City’s website said.
“The player will travel to Spain on Wednesday to have a medical. Madrid have an option to purchase the 26-year-old at the end of his temporary spell in the Spanish capital.”
City’s reluctance to contribute to the player’s wages are understood to have delayed his departure.
But with Gonzalo Higuain ruled out for up to three months, Real’s desperate need for a centre forward has forced them to pay all of Adebayor’s reported 165,000 pound-a-week salary.
Their failure to secure the return of Ruud Van Nistelrooy from Hamburg also contributed to the decision to bring in Adebayor.
The deal represents a victory of sorts for coach Jose Mourinho, who has been at loggerheads with director of football Jorge Valdano over the need for striking reinforcements.
Adebayor joined English Premier League outfit City from Arsenal in July 2009 for a fee believed to be approximately 25 million pounds.
He scored 19 goals in 35 appearances for the club, but has fallen behind new arrivals Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko in the battle to partner captain Carlos Tevez in attack.
The former Togo international becomes the latest purchase of former City manager Mark Hughes to leave the club, with full-back Wayne Bridge and underused front-man Roque Santa Cruz also departing.
Shaun Wright-Phillips is understood to be next in line for an exit.
Adebayor will be available to play in the Champions League with Real despite featuring in the Europa League earlier this season.
No stranger to controversy in his short career, he may test Mourinho’s famed man-management skills upon his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu.
After alienating Arsenal fans by agitating for a move away from the club during his final two seasons in north London, he enraged them further by celebrating provocatively upon scoring for City against the Gunners shortly after his departure.
In the same match, he was pictured raking his studs down the face of former teammate Robin van Persie.
After numerous rows with his national FA, he retired from international duty following a fatal gun attack on the Togo team bus during the 2010 African Cup of Nations.
