Neymar signs new Santos deal

Brazilian starlet Neymar has signed a new deal with Santos, ending months of speculation over a potential move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Amid reports that he was set for a transfer to La Liga in 2012, Neymar’s agent confirmed on Wednesday that the 19-year-old has negotiated a lucrative new deal with Copa Libertadores holders Santos.

The contract duration, which currently runs until 2015, remains unchanged, but the Brazil international will receive a substantial pay rise as well as an increase in the buy-out clause.

The striker’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, said his client was delighted at having the chance to stay on.

“Neymar is happy to be able to remain with Santos until at least 2014, after that he will decide where to go,” Ribeiro told Lance on Wednesday.

Santos are now expected to announce the move officially as details over Neymar’s new deal emerge.

The Brazilian is expected to earn around 1.2 million euros per month, while his buy-out clause, believed to be around 45 million euros, is set to increase.

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real had been linked with the youngster in the off-season, but Santos had announced they were looking to tie the player down to a new deal.

Neymar: Barca and Messi are great

Santos star Neymar said he is an avid fan of Barcelona and Lionel Messi.

The 19-year-old sensation is touted as one of the hottest prospects in South America, and his actions have caught the eye of clubs such as Barca and Real Madrid.

After helping Santos win the Copa Libertadores, Neymar has earned a potential match against Barca in the FIFA Club World Cup final in December, and the Brazil international hailed the Camp Nou side’s quality.

“Who does not admire Barcelona?” he asked in an interview with FIFA.com.

“They sowed the seeds a long time back and now they are reaping the reward.”

“They deserve all the praise they get for the joy they have given to the fans and to all the people who like to see good football, which includes me.”

Neymar, who is the only South America-based player to make the 23-man shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award, has frequently drawn comparisons with Messi, but he stressed he is not yet at the same level as the Argentine ace.

“I have always said that I still have a lot to learn,” Neymar said.

“Messi is a guy who has already made history and will achieve a lot more yet.”

“I am just starting out and I have a lot to do to get to his level.”

Neymar delighted with Ballon d´Or reports

Santos forward Neymar says would be thrilled if rumours over his nomination for the 2011 FIFA Ballon d’Or award prove correct.

The 19-year-old strike sensation scored four goals in Santos’ 4-1 victory against Atletico Paranaense to help the Copa Libertadores holders move within eight points of the Brazilian Serie A’s continental places.

Neymar has now scored 78 goals for Santos since breaking into the club’s senior ranks in March 2009, earmarking him as a target for the world’s biggest clubs and leading to rumours he has made the shortlist for FIFA’s prestigious award.

“It is a big happiness to be on a list like that while playing in Brazil,” Neymar told Globoesporte.

“I am very happy with all I have been through in my career, the good things and the bad things.”

“I only have everyone to thank.”

“I have always said I love playing football. When I am on the field I feel like a kid, playing with the ball. I am very happy playing football.”

Early Thursday, a couple of reputable Twitter accounts (reputable at least to me) mentioned in passing that this discussed-to-death Neymar to Chelsea move was basically a ‘done deal.’ Now, as of Friday morning, we’re hearing rumbles from those with an ear to the street that this agreement is in jeopardy over the kid’s hair.

His hair?

Impeccable styling.

Let’s start at the beginning.

I retweeted a pair of interesting Twitter posts early Thursday, both revolving around a potential transfer for Neymar. Former scout and renowned transfer Twitter man Christian Larrson had this to say about 10 hours ago: “Neymar to Chelsea looks a done deal.£30 million fee.”

Then, Chelsea Charger, popped up a few minutes later with this: “Word is Neymar deal indeed as good as done. Left 2 resolve: Neymar under contract with Nike -> wanted him 2 go 2 Barca & not 2 Adidas team.”

Say word?

Of course, you take this kind of information with a grain of salt. Hell, you take pretty much any info from Twitter with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, it sounded good. Real good.

A couple of people we trust called foul on that rumor. However, a few others backed up what Larrson and company were reporting. Things then proceeded to get weird.

Now this, this is insurable

Those same sources – well, two of them – contacted us later Thursday night with word that Neymar himself had approached his representatives in a move to facilitate his transfer to Chelsea this summer. The catch? He wants – no, is demanding – full control of his image rights, with specific attention to his hair. Yes, his hair.

Neymar has seen the hubbub over David Luiz, the ever-growing amount of Bob wigs at Stamford Bridge, and vows not to be denied the opportunity to cash in on what he feels is the most obscene mane this side of that weird fuck from Tokio Hotel. He’s already taken out a 20 million US insurance policy on his mohawk, similar to what Fly Girl Jennifer Lopez did for her trunk in the late 1990s. I mean, Tom Jones insured his chest hair for $7m so I’m not entirely opposed to that idea.

The hair clause, though? Just wow. Amongst the bullets in this bemusing contract, Neymar will be allowed full control of the club’s styling division.  A salon will be constructed on site at Cobham, complete with a full-scale skin care wing. Neymar will receive lifetime subscriptions to both Elle and Glamour magazines. At least two reserve players will be required to sport a similar mohawk, as will one member of the first team. Word is that Bane has already been earmarked for the role. Despairing.

Our source goes on to suggest that Neymar has already had plans drawn up to maximize his earning potential inside and outside of the club. He’s set to co-star alongside Russell Brand and Nicolas Cage in Barbershop 3: Hair Apparent. There’s also a ‘Blue is the Colour’ remake in the works featuring Kajagoogoo. The incarcerated Phil Spector has been tabbed to produce.

Where does it stop?

I must say, though, I’m looking forward to that Brand-Coppola-Neymar vehicle. Barbershop 2 was my shit.

Will Neymar be heading to the Premier League this summer?

Brazil’s latest whiz kid Neymar is being linked with a big money move to Premier League Chelsea.

And he has added weight to the rumours by stating it would be a dream move for him.

He is currently hot property with most of Europe’s top teams tracking him.

Dream

Neymar told Sky Sports:

“Chelsea’s a great club. It’s a dream of every player to play at Chelsea. If one day it happens, I will be very happy to come. When the moment comes we are going to sit with my family. We are going to think about it and discuss the options.”

The Premier League is arguably the best league in the world alongside La Liga and most players would like to try their luck in England’s top flight. It seems that Neymar is no different.

Prodigy

Brazil have a seemingly non-stop conveyor belt of top players coming through the countries youth ranks. Neymar is just the latest prodigy to come off that conveyor belt. The 19 year-old has been earning rave reviews playing for his club side Santos and for the Brazilian junior sides.

The nimble youngster is the worse kept secret in world football. Many people believe that he is set to become the next world superstar. He impressed immensely in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Scotland, scoring twice and giving the Scottish defence no end of problems. He is being somewhat prematurely compared to Brazilian football legend Pele.

Lightweight

The 19 year-old is currently quite lightweight and his physique isn’t yet ideal for the rough and tumble of the Premier League. He did surprise me against Scotland though as he seemed quite strong up against difficult physical opponents. He will no doubt get stronger with age and experience.

Young

Last summer Chelsea tried to sign the youngster. Neymar however discussed the move with his family and decided that he was too young to move away from his home country. He is still quite young and maybe it is still too soon for him to make a move abroad.

International

Neymar is already considered an important player for the future of the Brazilian national side. He is part of a new wave of young Brazilian talent that is expected to challenge for honours in the future. In fact he is considered to be the player that Brazilian head coach Mano Menezes wants to build his new look team around.

Benefit

Menezes seems to believe that Neymar would benefit from a move to the English top flight. He told Sky Sports:

“I think that could only be good for Neymar as it would be confirmation of his development. English football would make him stronger and help to escape strong marking. I don’t see any problem. But Brazil fans will be deprived of watching a good player.”

It’s unlikely that fans of the Brazilian domestic league will be enjoying the youngster’s talents for much longer. His club Santos are believed to be looking for

Sunday’s showcase friendly between Brazil and Scotland has been marred by allegations of racial abuse directed at Santos star Neymar.

Brazil emerged 2-0 winners in the international friendly match, with forward Neymar scoring both goals in a stand-out performance at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.But reports have emerged of a banana being thrown onto the pitch in north London, with 19-year-old Neymar claiming to have been racially abused during the match.”This atmosphere of racism is totally sad,” Neymar told Brazilian television channel Sportv. “They were jeering me a lot, even when I was about to kick the penalty the entire stadium was jeering.”"We leave our country to play here and something like this happens. It’s sad. I would rather not even talk about it, to keep the subject from escalating.”Neymar became the target of Scotland fans after a lengthy period of treatment by the Brazil physio following a seemingly innocuous challenge in the first half.”The reason Neymar was booed was because we believed he was feigning injury during the course of the game,” Scotland fan groups representative Hamish Husband said.The throwing of bananas at black players was a regrettably common occurrence during British football in the 1970s and 1980s.Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is believed to have removed the banana from the pitch.”There is no more space for racism in the world,” Leiva said.”They say it’s the first world here in Europe, but it’s where it happens the most.”"That has to change. Everybody is equal today, it’s a matter of respect.”Neither manager claimed to have witnessed the incident.”I didn’t see that,” Brazil coach Mano Menezes said. “We didn’t have the displeasure of watching it. If it happened it is lamentable but we don’t have confirmation of the event.”Scotland boss Craig Levein added: “I don’t know anything about that.”It is not certain who threw the banana, which came from a section of the stadium populated largely by Brazil fans.

Neymar continues to impress

Chelsea's initial bid of 35 million euros for Neymar has failed to entice him to the EPL.He scored his fifth goal of the S American U 20 tournament as Brazil beat Colombia 3 -1.
