Ibrahimovic blasts Guardiola, Barcelona

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has defended his decision to reveal the truth about his unhappy spell at Barcelona in his autobiography.

The book, titled ‘I Am Zlatan Ibrahimovic’, is set to be released on November 15, but Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet recently leaked excerpts from the book, which included the 30-year-old directing heavy criticism at the management of former coach Pep Guardiola.

However, Ibrahimovic has insisted that there is no ulterior motive to the sudden release of his story, believing it was necessary to clarify his version of events that took place in Catalunya two seasons ago.

“If anyone has anything else to say or they know something I don’t, then they are welcome to speak, but I’ve told you everything I know in this book,” said the striker.

The Sweden international joined Barcelona in a blaze of glory during the summer of 2009 from Inter, but he admitted that his experience contrasted from the one he had dreamed of, despite scoring 21 goals for the European champions.

“Sometimes it is better to be content with what you have to dream about, than to fulfill it, only to discover that it almost kills you,” he said.

In the autobiography, Ibrahimovic revealed that he completely lost control in the aftermath of Barcelona’s 4-1 away win over Villarreal in the 2009-10 campaign which followed their Champions League elimination by Inter only days before.

He told Guardiola that he was afraid of then-Inter coach Jose Mourinho and that the Barcelona coach could ‘go to hell’.

“I yelled to him: ‘You have no balls!’ And probably worse things than that. And I added: ‘You are sh***ing yourself about Mourinho! You can go to hell!’ I was completely mad. If I were Guardiola, I would have been frightened,” Ibrahimovic writes in the first chapter of his book.

The former Ajax star also took the time to reveal his true feelings for Barcelona trio Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi.

“The atmosphere in the dressing room was way too quiet for me. Messi, Iniesta and Xavi always obeyed without protesting. They were like schoolboys. I’m not like that and I couldn’t be myself,” he said.

Ibrahimovic suspended again

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been handed a three-game suspension for being sent off against Fiorentina.

The 29-year-old, who is his side’s leading scorer with 14 Serie A goals this season, was given a straight red card for dissent in Milan’s 2-1 away win on Sunday, although he denies swearing at a linesman.

The temperamental Swede was making his first appearance back after serving a two-game ban for striking Bari defender Marco Rossi last month.

Ibrahimovic had already been booked in the Fiorentina match and would have been facing a one-game ban, but his straight red meant his penalty was increased to three matches.

“I lost the ball and was angry with myself, not the assistant referee. I was talking to myself,” Ibrahimovic said.

“I didn’t protest the red card because there was nothing to be said, he had made his decision.”

“My teammates have reason to be angry with me, as during a period when Fiorentina were putting on the pressure was certainly not the right time to get sent off.”

“I am sorry, but it seems as if nowadays I can’t even mutter to myself without getting into trouble. I’ll do everything I can to help Milan win the Scudetto.”

Milan, who lead Serie A by three points from Napoli, are tipped to appeal the ban, but if that move proves unsuccessful they will be without their leading scorer for league clashes with Sampdoria, Brescia and Bologna.

He will, however, be available for their Coppa Italia semi-final clash with Palermo on April 20.

Never a good idea to punch an opponent, tends to end in a sending off, as it did on this occasion during AC Milan’s draw with Bari.

Ibrahimovic scores a scorcher....

By Anish on November 24, 2010 4:03 AM | Comments | TrackBacksShare|

Auxerre had come to the game against AC Milan with a record of being unbeaten in their last eight outings. But there was no stopping this sledgehammer strike from Ibrahimovic.
Ronaldinho came in as a late sub and scored another to put the game well and truly past the french team.

An unusual bit of trivia about Auxerre:It was was founded in 1905, by the a priest - Father Ernest Abbé Deschamps.
Can't be that many other football clubs around that were founded by priests.

AC Milan Unveil New Signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Pics)

2 comments by Mr Neutral on August 30th, 2010

He may have won three Serie A titles with arch rivals and stadium sharers Inter but Zlatan Ibrahimovic got a warm reception at the San Siro as he was unveiled to the masses. The fear is that the faltering Rossoneri place far too much in the way of a burden of hope on the Swede’s ample shoulders. It’s been five seasons since the club’s last domestic title and since winning the Champions League back in 2007 Ac Milan have failed to get as far as the last 16 since. A lot will be expected of the former Barcelona man who will at least have fond memories of Milan and does indeed have a point to prove.
