Sir Alex Ferguson has decided that Atletico Madrid keeper David De Gea is the man to replace Edwin van der Sar, according to Daily Mail.
With the Dutch keeper unwilling to reconsider his pending retirement, Sir Alex Ferguson and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele have been very active in searching for his replacement, but it appears the search is finally over.
Maarten Stekelenburg, Hugo Lloris and Manuel Neuer have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but after careful consideration, the Scottish boss decided to go with David De Gea.

Comment on Ref calls draw Fergie ire by Roberto Carlos Alvarez-Galloso
Ref calls draw Fergie ire
Sir Alex Ferguson blamed referee Martin Atkinson for Manchester United’s 2-0 loss away to Chelsea on Tuesday.
English Premier League leaders United took a 1-0 lead through Wayne Rooney in the 29th minute at Stamford Bridge.
But David Luiz equalised for Chelsea on 54th minutes.
The defender was lucky to not receive a second yellow card from Atkinson after tripping Rooney midway through the second half.
Chelsea then benefited from a contentious penalty decision to win the match through Frank Lampard’s spot-kick with 11 minutes to go.
“The penalty kick was so soft,” Ferguson said.
“Deary me. But we played very well. It was a great performance by us. We didn’t deserve that.”
“That’s three years in a row (at Stamford Bridge) referees’ decisions have changed the game.”
Ferguson struggled to comprehend how Atkinson failed to spot Luiz’s foul on Rooney.
“It was incredible,” he said.
“Even before that he’d done Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) off the ball. He’d done him late. Nothing done, the referee’s in front of it.”
“He does Rooney clear as day, (the referee is) six yards from it, he doesn’t do anything. That changed the game.”
“These are decisions that change the game. And he’s going to be refereeing every week.”
“But I’m proud of the players. They’ve endured a lot of decisions against them but they’ve come through it, they’ve done their best. They’ve created good chances.”
“They didn’t deserve that.”
Even Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti admitted that Luiz may have been lucky to escape without punishment.
“There was a lot of intensity and it was not easy for the referee to decide every time,” Ancelotti said.
“David Luiz could be lucky but there was a lot going on on the pitch so the referee decided he didn’t see this.”
“We kept going with strength, intensity and power in our performance.”
“It was really good but if you don’t play well, you cannot beat Man United.”
“It was a good performance and we are still alive.”

Consistency the key, says Fergie
Sir Alex Ferguson says the most consistent team will win this year’s Premier League title race.
Manchester United are top of the table by only one point from Arsenal, although they have a game in hand on the North Londoners.
Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wigan Athletic, Ferguson said: “It’s important that we keep our momentum going because the team who is most consistent will win the league.”
“It’ll be a difficult game, Wigan are a team who play fantastic football, but this time of season all games are going to be difficult.”
“It’s a concern that Wigan have re-laid their pitch, although I understand it’s okay.”
United have veterans Ryan Giggs and Michael Owen back from injury for the trip to the DW Stadium.
Ferguson added: “We’re trying to get Ryan Giggs fit for the Wigan game, and Michael Owen is back training and could be available.”
“Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans should both be back to face Liverpool next weekend.”
“Ji-sung Park is still two weeks away.”
“Anderson will probably be back in three weeks, he’s back in Portugal now and we’ll have to see how he progresses.”
“Antonio Valencia is doing well in training but it’s difficult to assess when he’ll be back.”
“We have to make a decision on when to play him in terms of his own confidence after being out for so long.”
“He could be back in two weeks hopefully.”
Rio Ferdinand (calf), Jonny Evans (ankle) will play no part in the game.

Fergie eyes summer move for Rodwell
Sir Alex Ferguson will try to sign Everton’s Jack Rodwell next summer as he continues to look for midfield reinforcements.
Manchester United tried to close the deal in January but were forced to back off as Everton didn’t want to sell the 19-year-old in the midst of the relegation fight.
However, with Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick both past their prime, Fergie is set to reignite his interest in the Everton midfielder.

Fergie counts his United blessings
Sir Alex Ferguson believes he has lost none of his drive and determination despite enjoying unparalleled success at Manchester United.
Ferguson, who took over as United manager in 1986, has won the English Premier League 11 times, the FA Cup five times and the Champions League twice to become the most decorated manager in British football history.
And the former Aberdeen boss, who played as a striker with Glasgow Rangers, is confident he has retained the same qualities he brought to Old Trafford 25 years ago.
“Your character and work ethic doesn’t change,” Ferguson told ESPN.
“It is part of you and I like to see it in my players.”
“It was with me when I was young.”
When Ferguson arrived United were without a league title since 1967, but success did not arrive instantly.
They had to wait until 1993 before breaking their championship drought and some lean seasons in Ferguson’s initial years in charge are believed to have nearly cost the Scotsman his job.
“You can’t dismiss the history of Manchester United,” he said.
“That was one of the things I wanted to bring back. That was the challenge.”
“Every manager knows the name of the game. You have to be successful. That drives a lot of people on. Who wants to fail?”
“Now I am integrated into this club, which brings a responsibility to win.”
“That is more accurate than the fear of failure that was there in the early days.”
Ferguson’s success and longevity have made him an institution in his own right within English football.
He has compiled a catalogue of feuds and disagreements with the game’s administrators, the media and other managers.
While some might disagree, the 69-year-old claims he never dwells on his accomplishments and credits humility as a key quality underpinning his glittering career.
“I never think about what I have won. I don’t have time for that,” he said.
“There is a certain vanity about it anyway. What has served me well over the years is keeping my feet on the ground.”
“Humility is an important aspect of your life and should not be dismissed.”

Fergie confirms Macheda offer
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that one Italian club have made an move to sign Federico Macheda on loan.
Aston Villa, Wigan, West Brom, Roma and Lazio are all reported to be interested in signing the young striker on loan.
“He has to play,” he said. “If a club comes and convinces the player and me that he is going to play then they will be the ones we’re thinking about.
“He’s thinking himself about Italy but I would hope it would be the Premier League. He would go into the Italian league quite easily.
“So far only one club has phoned, but I’m sure there will be more in the next few days.”

Fergie rules out Owen exit
Michael Owen will not be leaving Manchester United during the January transfer window according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and there has been speculation the Red Devils would look to off-load him in January to avoid losing him for nothing in June.
But Ferguson declared Owen was still a required player at Old Trafford and expected the former Liverpool ace to make an impact as he returns to fitness after a hamstring injury.
“He is looking really good,” Ferguson told the Mail on Sunday. “He has trained really well this week. People may have forgotten just what a good player Michael is.”
“He’s had a nightmare time with a bad hamstring injury but now he deserves a change of luck.”
“If he can stay fit, I believe he has an important part to play for the club between now and the end of the season; there’s no doubt about that. He still has a great engine.”
“There has never been a problem with him since he came to United.”
“He is great to have around. He conducts himself well and is a great example to the younger players.”
“I know a few clubs have been thinking about him for a possible loan arrangement but it will not happen. He is definitely not going anywhere.”

No Beckham return: Fergie
(GSM) – Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out any hopes of a return for David Beckham to Manchester United.
Beckham is eying a return to Europe in order to force his way back to the England squad. But the 35-year-old has maintained that he will not return to his homeland unless to play at Old Trafford.
Beckham, who has already expressed his desire to make a short-term loan spell in Europe, is wanted by a host of clubs including Everton and Sven-Goran Eriksson’s Leicester City.
With Beckham making it known that he will not playing for another English team, Ferguson has come out to banish the hopes of the United legend for a return to the club.
Ferguson said: “I don’t think so with David at his age,” Ferguson said. “I have never signed a player at that age have I?”
