Saudi coach sacked after dismal Asian Cup
Saudi Arabia have sacked coach Nasser Al-Johar for failing to rescue the proud nation’s Asian Cup campaign in Qatar.
Al-Johar lasted just eight days at the helm of the Green Falcons after replacing Jose Peseiro, who was given his marching orders following a first-up 2-1 loss to Group B rivals Syria.
But they fared no better under Al-Johar, going down 1-0 to Jordan before a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Japan sealed Saudi Arabia’s exit in the group stages.
It was a humiliating early departure for the Green Falcons, who were runners-up in 2007 and considered one of the favourites to challenge for the title this time around.
Instead, Saudi Arabia failed to make the knockout stages of the Asian Cup for only the second time in the history of the tournament.
Team manager Fahd Al-Misaibeeh and his entire staff have also reportedly resigned, according to Saudi state news agency SPA.
“The Saudi Soccer Federation has accepted the resignation of Fahd Al-Misaibeeh, manager of the Saudi national team, and his crew, and relieved Nasser Al-Johar of his post as the current team’s coach,” read a statement from Prince Nawaf Bin Faisal, president of the Saudi Football Federation (SFF).
“We vow to immediately replace them by a highly-qualified international crew and domestic aides.”
Prince Newaf was promoted to head of the SFF to replace Prince Sultan Bin Fahd, who was removed by King Abdullah following the loss to Jordan.

Official- Rafa Benitez sacked by Inter Milan

It is now official- Inter Milan have sacked manager Rafa Benitez after just six months with the Spaniard. Benitez, who recently guided Inter to the Club World Cup in Dubai, had outraged Inter president Massimo Moratti by publicly asking the board for its backing and funding for new players.
Under Benitez, Inter have struggled to reproduce the form that saw them stroll to the Scudetto last year under Jose Mourinho, although their cause has not been helped by injuries to key players. The Nerazzurri are currently thirteen points behind leaders AC Milan.
Moratti also told Italian news agency ANSA that the split had become inevitable.

Van Dijk sacked as Venlo coach
VVV Venlo coach Jan van Dijk has been sacked after leading the Dutch strugglers to second-bottom on the Eredivisie table.
The 54-year-old was handed his marching orders on Monday, with club management losing patience as the threat of relegation continues to grow.
A short statement on the club’s official website confirmed Van Dijk’s departure, though a replacement has yet to be named.
“The board of VVV Venlo has terminated collaboration with coach Jan van Dijk with immediate effect,” the club’s statement read.
“The reason lies in the continued poor performance of the club during the calendar year 2010, and the associated low ranking of the team.”
VVV have secured just 10 points from 18 fixtures this term, eight points adrift of escaping the drop zone.
It is a disappointing end to Van Dijk’s reign at the Limburg club, which began in June 2008 with Venlo mired in the second division.
The former FC Groningen midfielder led Venlo back to the Eredivisie in his first season then oversaw a respectable 12th-placed finish last term.
Club president Hai Berden added: “VVV Venlo was becoming increasingly uncomfortable due to poor results.”
“We have regularly discussed this with the coach. The basis for further cooperation has disappeared.”
“The situation has been evaluated by the club at the start of the winter and this is the consequence.”
