The FA To Hand Stuart Pearce A New Two-Year Deal

England U21 manager Stuart Pearce  will be offered a new two-year contract by the Football Association.

The 48-year-old took over the side in 2007 and has been a huge success, guiding them to the semi-finals of the 2007 European Championships and a runners-up spot in 2009.

Pearce, who is also part of Fabio Capello’s coaching staff with the senior side, hopes to go one better in this summer’s tournament.

His contract expires after the event, held in Denmark, but he revealed he has been offered a new two-year deal by FA head of football development, Sir Trevor Brooking.

But right now the former England left-back is concentrating on the upcoming friendlies with Denmark and Iceland as preparation for the finals.

“My contract finishes in the summer,” Pearce said. ”I spoke with Trevor Brooking about a month ago. He’s keen to extend it for another two years.

“I enjoy the job I do, so if it’s workable, it might well happen.”

“It’s (the Denmark friendly) my last chance to have a look at them and get in my mind which 23 we’re going to go with in the summer,” he added.

“Competition for places is fantastic, not just to get in the team but to get in the squad of 23.”

Bad news for Stuart Holden: Out for six months

By Shourin Roy on March 21, 2011 5:46 AM | Comments | TrackBacksShare|

The Jonny Evans tackle does a number. Holden is out for the season. Big loss for Bolton and the USA. The knee injury he suffered required 26 stitches to close up and he undergoes surgery today in London. The good news is he's keeping upbeat.
