Ancelotti craves elusive away win

Chelsea will need to be at their best to grab a first Premier League away win since October at Bolton on Monday, says manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The reigning champions sit in fourth place on the league table and the Italian knows Bolton will pose a very physical threat to his defenders.

“We haven’t won away since October so it will be important to perform well at Bolton,” Ancelotti said.

“They are playing a lot better this season and they have more confidence. They have a clear idea of football and they are using their big strikers Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander very well.”

“We need to win away and to say that this bad moment is definitely gone. We look a lot better in training, the players are fitter and playing with more confidence.”

“Obviously the most important thing is the results we get on the pitch. It doesn’t matter if I think that things are better, we have to get a result.”

Big names Frank Lampard and John Terry are both doubts for the clash at the Reebok Stadium.

“We have a little problem with Frank Lampard. He is having some treatment and didn’t train on Thursday,” Ancelotti added. “I hope he will be ready to play against Bolton on Monday.”

“John Terry had a little problem with his back and he did a different training session to the other players.”

Liverpool search for the elusive win

Four points are all that stand between Liverpool and the relegation zone.All they could manage was a 2 -2 draw against Everton.The defence conceded two incredibly shambolic goals.Sylvain Distin was given the freedom of Stanley Park to nod home the equaliser less than a minute after Raul Meireles had scored a ripper from inside the box.All the good running from Torres and Meireles did not translate into goals.Jermaine Beckford put Everton ahead.Kuyt equalised with a 66th minute penalty.Four points from relegation.Wake up.

McDonald aims for elusive goal

Scott McDonald will prove the man in the spotlight when the Socceroos open their Asian Cup campaign against India on Monday.

The Middlesbrough striker is still hunting for a debut international goal and knows he won’t get a better chance to finally break his duck when Australia plays the tournament outsiders in Qatar.

“I hope so, I certainly hope so,” McDonald replied to the question about whether he would finally open his account against the Indians.

“I’m confident no matter what, it’s nice I have the backing (of coach Holger Osieck), so I’ve got to try and repay that.”

After struggling to make an impact under Pim Verbeek, McDonald has enjoyed the faith shown by Osieck, who has started him in four of his five games in charge.

Osieck is a firm believer that McDonald’s creativity is just as important as scoring goals, but the former Celtic man knows that the monkey will only get off his back when he hits the back of the net.

“Hopefully I can be successful in this tournament because this is when it counts,” McDonald said.

India, who conceded 14 goals in its past two outings before the Asian Cup, are despised outsiders and many are tipping the Socceroos to rack up a cricket score.

McDonald shared the view expressed by his captain Lucas Neill that any win, no matter what the margin, would do.

“We can’t take any team lightly – we saw last time every team is a threat. If we can get the three points it will set us off well.”
