Tottenham to Sell Aaron Lennon for £15m After Winger Falls Out With Harry Redknapp

15 million this summer following a breakdown in his relationship with Harry Redknapp, Goal.com can reveal.

The Spurs manager is fed up with below-par performances from the England winger and is ready to listen to offers for him.

Lennon has scored just three goals in 42 matches this season and, although he has chipped in with eight assists in all competitions, only three of those have come in the Premier League.

His relationship with Redknapp has steadily deteriorated over the last two seasons following a string of disagreements, culminating in a barely concealed falling-out following Tottenham’s 4-0 Champions League defeat at Real Madrid last month.

The Spurs boss has become increasingly frustrated by what he believes is Lennon’s failure to respond to orders.

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso said the tie was not over, despite his side’s massive advantage.

“(It’s) not even close (to over),” he said.

Didier Drogba Loses the Plot after Verbal Attack from Chelsea Fan

Didier Drogba unleashed a devastating verbal volley at a mouthy Chelsea fan after the final whistle of Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Stoke. Drogba who had earlier levelled the match for Chelsea with a fine header elected to take a short corner in the dying seconds of the game, the decision not to loft the ball into the box enraged a nearby Chelsea fan who gave the striker a tongue lashing. Following the full time whistle the Ivorian angrily confronted the fan and was involved in an ugly shouting match. He furiously told the fan to say what he had said to his face but the fan suddenly became a shrinking violet and refused to repeat his earlier remarks. His Chelsea teammates were forced to step in and dragged the irate Drogba down the tunnel before the situation got out of control.

This is not the first time the fiery front-man has courted controversy during his career and isn’t even the first time he has confronted a Chelsea fan. He famously goaded a fan behind the goal who had heckled him after a poor miss when he scored the winning goal for his team. Aside from clashes with fans he is frequently involved in heated incidents with other players, none more so than Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic. One of these incidents saw Vidic lose a tooth in 2008 when Drogba appeared to aim an elbow at the Serbian, while the other major incident saw Drogba red carded deep into injury time in the Champions League final for a cowardly slap to the face of the United defender. He has also been heavily criticised for advocating diving once saying in an interview “Sometimes I dive, sometimes I stand”.

The Chelsea star has suffered a remarkable loss of form having started the season at a blistering pace and now sees himself being linked with a move to the MLS in the summer. With only one year left on his current contract and no sign of an offer from Chelsea it’s looking increasingly likely he’ll depart from Stamford Bridge after 7 years service and 142 goals to his name.

Barcelona beat Villarreal on Saturday to open up an eight-point lead in La Liga after Real Madrid lost 1-0 at home to Sporting Gijon.

A 79th-minute goal from Miguel de las Cuevas helped Sporting register an unlikely upset over second-placed Real at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Shorn of key men Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema, the hosts were reduced to a handful of half-chances from Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil and Argentina forward Angel Di Maria.

Striker Gonzalo Higuain nearly scored after coming off the bench in his first appearance following a four-month absence through injury.

But it was left to former Atletico Madrid man de las Cuevas to snatch a late winner for Sporting and deal a major blow to Real’s title ambitions.

It was Real coach Jose Mourinho’s first league defeat in charge of a home team for just over nine years and also the capital city club’s first home defeat of the season in any competiton.

Defending champions Barca duly took advantage, despite being made to work by Villarreal.

They eventually edged a tight encounter in the Estadio El Madrigal 1-0, courtesy of Gerard Pique’s 66th-minute strike.

With Lionel Messi starting on the bench under an injury cloud, the visitors struggled to breakdown Villarreal, who went close on several occasions through Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi.

Xavi Hernandez had an effort tipped over the bar in one of Barca’s few clear-cut chances, before Messi was introduced on 52 minutes.

But it was Brazilian Dani Alves rather than Argentine superstar Messi who finally crafted the breakthrough.

Finding space on the right, Alves sent in a cross that glanced off the head of Sergio Busquets before finding its way to Pique.

The Spain international defender used his chest to cushion the ball down and then smacked a volley past Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez from close range.

The win puts Pep Guardiola’s side firmly in control of the title race and – with eight matches left in the season – on course for their third consecutive championship crown.

Elsewhere, four goals from striker Roberto Soldado helped Valencia come from a goal down to beat Getafe 4-2 away from home.

The win keeps Valencia third, a distant 16 points behind Real and 24 back from Barca.

Bundesliga: Game abandoned after crowd trouble

Schalke led 2-0 away to St Pauli when Friday’s Bundesliga match was abandoned due to an object striking the assistant referee.

Playing in their first match under new coach Ralf Rangnick, veteran Spanish striker Raul put visitors Schalke 1-0 up after 26 minutes at the Millerntor-Stadion.

St Pauli had a goal disallowed for offside in the second half and Schalke doubled their lead seconds later, with a strike from substitute Julian Draxler.

Defender Jan-Philipp Kalla was sent off for a second bookable offence and St Pauli were down to nine men when Fin Bartels was shown a straight red in the 79th minute.

Officials abandoned the match just minutes before the final whistle when assistant referee Thorsten Schiffner – the man who disallowed St Pauli’s goal – was hit by a missile thrown from the stands, believed to be a full plastic beer cup.

“We had to call off the game. There was no other choice,” referee Deniz Aytekin said.

“Even in the first half the assistants had been hit by lighters and coins.”

The game was immediately halted and the players taken off the pitch, with the officials forced to shelter under the umbrellas of security staff as more projectiles were hurled in their direction.

It is yet to be announced if the points will be awarded to Schalke or if the match will be replayed.

St Pauli, third from bottom and in the relegation play-off places, face the possibility of a heavy fine, stadium ban and a points deduction.

“Such scenes are unacceptable,” St Pauli coach Holger Stanislawski said.

“These things should not happen in stadiums. I can only apologise to the assistant in the name of St Pauli.”

St Pauli Vs Schalke Suspended After Linesman Is Hit With Pint of Beer (Video)

Bundesliga strugglers St Pauli may find themselves in hot water for this incident. The home side had already had two players sent off and were trailing in this crucial relegation battle before the linesman was hit by a plastic cup full of beer in the 88th minute which forced referee Deniz Aytekin to bring the game to a halt.

Robson recovering after surgery

Former England captain Bryan Robson says he is recovering well after an operation to remove a tumour from his throat.

The 54-year-old former Manchester United midfielder, who is current boss of the Thailand national team, said the cancer was discovered a few weeks ago after he had experienced a sore throat and swollen glands.

But after an operation to remove the mass, and with a course of radiotherapy to come, Robson is confident of making a full recovery.

“I thought I had a sore throat about three to four weeks ago, and all of a sudden, glands were starting to swell,” Robson told Omnisport.

“When I went to the hospital just to get a check up they put a torch down the throat and said: ‘Look Mr Robson I think that’s a tumour you’ve got there and not the swollen glands’, so it came as a little bit of a shock because you don’t expect that.”

“The hospitals over there are terrific in Thailand.”

“This was on the Monday and by the Thursday they took the tumour out. That was successful, the operation, they did tests and everything.”

“What it’s boiled down to now is that it’s isolated to the throat, that’s a good thing, and I need five weeks of radiotherapy so that’s good news after the initial bad news.”

Argentina game called off after fan dies

A football match in Argentina was abandoned on Sunday after a fan died during violent clashes between supporters.

San Lorenzo fan Ramon Aramayo died amid violent exchanges between fans before their Primera League game at Velez Sarsfield.

It is not clear how the 40-year-old died, with varying reports in the Argentine media.

Police on horseback were forced to intervene as the visiting supporters made their way to the ground.

“Independent of the whole organization, unfortunately, there are people who don’t want to live in an orderly fashion, who don’t want to respect authority and these situations happen,” Federal Police spokesperson Nestor Rodriguez said.

“If people had a bit better behaviour, tolerance and came with enough time to arrive at the stadium or whatever other event – perhaps there would be fewer situations of conflict.”

The game did eventually get under way, but referee Sergio Pezzota led both teams away as San Lorenzo fans threatened to break on to the pitch. Velez goalkeeper Pablo Migliore was also hit by a missile.

McFly Star Returns Home After Rehab

McFly star Dougie Poynter has returned home after his recent stint in rehab. The star tweeted, “Got home last night and read all your messages. Thanks for all your support, really means allot x”

It’s thought the 23 year old has been struggling to come to terms with his split from Frankie Sandford of The Saturdays.

McFly tickets are on sale now for the band’s upcoming UK arena tour, which is now certain to go ahead following Dougie’s return.

Wenger sidetracks personal deficiencies to go after UEFA

In all of the furore surrounding Robin Van Persie's dismissal by Massimo Busacca a simple truth seems to have been overlooked - why did RVP foolishly strike Dani Alves on the face? Right after Busacca had cautioned him from making matters worse for entering into a war of words with Abidal.

He not only received a totally unnecessary booking but was thereafter skating on thin ice. Busacca without the hindsight of that first booking might have stopped with just cautioning the Arsenal striker for deliberately ignoring the offside whistle. But Van Persie was inviting trouble. Busacca probably thought another talking to was just going to be empty words. Underscoring the context of the undoubtedly harsh decision to give the second yellow.

Many have screamed bias and quoted statistics about Spanish clubs never having lost with Busacca officiating. Messi was clearly brought down by Diaby in the box right in front of the Italian referee. It was a clear penalty. Arsenal got an incredible break with his decision to wave on play. Which really waters down this whingeing about partisanship.

Now UEFA are contemplating a two match ban for Arsene Wenger and Samir Nasri after the two exchanged words with Busacca. An aggrieved Wenger hit back accusing UEFA of being a dictatorship and demanding they show humility by admitting they were wrong for the Van Persie sending off.

But where was Wenger when he had to calm his main striker and entreat him not to do something stupid. Pep Guardiola was on the sidelines waving his arms up and down visibly remonstrating with his players to take it down a notch.

Both teams were on the verge of something disastrous but there was only one manager who seemed to recognize the importance of mental composure. And Arsenal was the team unsurprisingly undone by momentary lapses of reason. It is a pattern well documented and shows no signs of mitigation. Reflexively the blame falls on the players. But this is too simple an explanation attributing this contagion to a sort of collective yawn. We have to look higher up for this malaise.

It has taken Wenger a while but he finally acknowledged that winning the Carling Cup was important to Arsenal's psyche. Thus it would follow the club would come out of the gates to end their six year old trophy drought against unheralded Birmingham. But evidently it seemed showing up was enough to earn them the Cup. It was the Blues who looked earnest and confident. And by the time the Gunners got going they were done in by another moment of mental fragility.

A teachable moment one would think. But here was Samir Nasri, not two days later virtually declaring Arsenal winner of the Premiership. Promptly Stoke cut them down to size. But he was just following Wenger's cue that they were in line for a wondrous quadruple after winning an unnecessary FA Cup replay against Orient, 5-0. In the past, Wenger has compared Abou Diaby to Patrick Vieira on the strength of one display against Portsmouth. Just another example of the wishful fast tracking that has increased one trophyless year after another without the pre-requisite time, diligence, performance, and most importantly results on the field: Walcott will be the next Thierry Henry, Nasri is Pires, Wilshere is Rooney, Van Persie is Van Basten. It goes on.

This litany of self fulfilling prophecies is a dangerous sign that things are not going according to plan and Wenger is just rehashing past laurels. Just because you say so, doesn't make it so. Only in a world devoid of reality would someone like Nicklas Bendtner summon the braggadocio of best striker in the world. A world fostered by Wenger where it now seems bombast come first. Going after referees is another. Stacking imaginary odds against you requires creativity and invention. Unfortunately Wenger seems to be expounding more effort in that area than actually taking a good hard look at himself.

Pulis fumes after controversial equaliser

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has blamed a ‘shocking’ decision from the linesman for his side’s 1-1 draw with West Brom on Monday.

The Potters led 1-0 after a Rory Delap header on 53 minutes and looked set for victory until on-loan striker Carlos Vela equalised for West Brom with three minutes remaining.However, replays suggested both Vela and fellow striker Peter Odemwingie were offside in the lead-up to the goal, something which drew Pulis’ ire.Pulis told Sky Sports: “We’re disappointed but we’ve not played well tonight. I thought that’s as poor as we’ve played all season.”"Give West Brom credit for coming back at us after we’d scored the goal but then looking at their goal, it’s a shocking decision by the linesman.”"If he (the linesman) can’t get that right then what’s he doing officiating at our level? Probably the clearest red card you will see for a while. FC Twente defender Douglas had already slapped an AZ opponent and been given a straight red, he then attempted to head-butt the referee, was restrained by his team-mates, but not enough to prevent him hitting an AZ player on his way off the pitch.
