Impressions:
1.First goal was a delight to watch although it was tarnished by a hint of offside. Nevertheless, Nani’s trickery and movement followed by Ando’s touchback to him and Berba’s finish summed up what United are capable of at their best.
2.Nani must have been itching to get out there today (after being left on the bench against Chelsea) and had his way down the left. At times, he frustrated Berba with his reluctance to release the pass earlier, but overall, he was in storming form. His touch to get past Schwarzer and composure to not shoot immediately after was commendable.
3.Valencia creates a buzz every time he receives the ball because there is nothing superfluous about his touch or movement. His nature of play is to be incredibly direct whenever possible and he got the better of Calcido today down the right. His goal, while all down to Nani, was well deserved considering his injury plagued season and his return to form almost immediately after coming back into the team. It’s good to see him back and in fine form for squeaky bum time.
4.Playing one up front worked well today since our attack flowed so predominantly down our flanks. The issue with Berba as a lone forward has always been his tendency to drop too deep to receive the ball at his feet effectively giving us a more packed midfield, but without a target man further forward to keep the defense honest. With Nani and Valencia in such a rampant mood today, we were able to attack down the flanks repeatedly and reduce our need to run all our attacks through Berba.
5.Games like today will hopefully convince Scholes to come back next season. With Gibson and Ando (especially) providing him protection and muscle in midfield, he was free to move the ball around at will. If we can upgrade in the offseason with even more bite in the middle of the park, he would be free to contribute with what he does best without having to worry too much about having to cleanup in front of the back four.
6.It was weird to see Ando as the farthest forward of our midfielders at various points in the game since his composure and passing in the final third aren’t exactly top class. Considering some of the space in which he found himself today, you wonder what someone of Sneijder or Ozil’s quality/creativity could have conjured up. Ando is more the battering ram that puts his head down and runs through the crowd to create chances.
7.One of the biggest positive from today’s game was that we finished the 90 without picking up any injuries. That’s a big plus in light of our love affair with the treatment table recently.
In other news, Chelsea won today thus keeping themselves in the hunt. We’re now 10 points clear of Arsenal although you feel like they will cut that back down to 7 after their game tomorrow against Blackpool.
Ultimately, we know that winning our remaining league fixtures will see the title return to OT regardless of how the other 2 teams perform. Squeaky bum time indeed.

Mourinho brings all his big guns against Spurs
Jose Mourinho will risk bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo even as they remain injury doubts. Fans are divided on this issue with half of them urging Mourinho to take his chances and the rest characterizing it as a foolhardy decision. Their Liga aspirations are all but over so they might as well go for broke in the biggest title. It has been 7 years and 12 days since Real played the Champions League quarterfinals.
Real Madrid: Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho, Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Mesut Özil, Angel Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Many intriguing scenarios. Amongst them - the presence of CR7, Carvalho, and Adebayor who've had success against Spurs while in the Premiership. What will make Pepe lose his cool? And try decapitating his opponent.
In other news, Harry Redknapp slapped a £80m price tag on Bale on the eve of the Real match after the winger expressed his desire to play in Europe. Mmmmmm. The timing is impeccable.

Arsenal Striker Passed Fit To Play Against Blackburn
Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has shaken off a knee injury and is fit to play against Blackburn Rovers tomorrow.
The 27-year-old picked up the knock playing for Holland in the 5-3 victory over Hungary.
He scored his country’s first goal but came off before half-time and was considered a doubt for this weekend’s Premier League action.
But he, along with Cesc Fabregas (hamstring), Theo Walcott (ankle), Nicklas Bendtner (ankle), Alex Song (knee) and Abou Diaby (groin) are all fit to return.
The only bad news for manager Arsene Wenger is that Aaron Ramsey (groin) and Denilson (toe) will sit out the game at the Emirates.

Russian Premier League Club Beat Up Their Own Player: Nikola Nikezic Wins Case Against Kuban
Montenegrin Nikola Nikezic, who said he was forced to end his contract with Kuban Krasnodar after being beaten up, has settled his dispute with the Russian Premier League club, the players’ union chief said on Monday.
“The two sides have reached an agreement for Kuban to pay Nikezic compensation of $256,000 for the final year of his contract,” Nikolai Grammatikov, secretary general for the Russian players’ union (RSFT), told Reuters.
Nikezic lodged a complaint with FIFA and UEFA this month alleging that he was beaten up and threatened with a gun at Kuban’s training ground, forcing him to annul the final year of his two-year deal with the club.
“I was invited into a room where I was met by two strong men,” Nikezic wrote in a letter to soccer’s world and European governing bodies.
“When I refused to sign, saying I still have another year on my contract, I received a powerful blow to the liver. I simply feared for my life,” added the former international, who represented Serbia and Montenegro at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Grammatikov said: “I think they (Kuban) have realised it was the right thing to do and settle this case without any further complications. We could say common sense has prevailed.”
Kuban officials were not available for comment but the club’s general director Suren Mkrtchan was quoted as saying by Russian media that the case was being resolved.
Grammatikov said Kuban could still face sanctions by the Russian FA. (Yahoo)
It is astonishing that in this day and age something like this could occur, especially in the Premier League of nations football association. Nikezi? had arrived at the club after a successful spell at Le Havre and in fact was part of a successful promotion push but clearly they still wanted him out. Interestingly enough the current manager of Kuban Krasnodar is none other than former Chelsea and Sheffield Wednsday full back Dan Petrescu!
