This Steve Sidwell goal vs Liverpool was probably the goal of the night in the Fulham vs Liverpool fixture at Craven Cottage on May 9, 2011. Sidwell’s goal against Liverpool however did come in a losing cause as Fulham were thrashed 5-2 by Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool.

Sidwell’s goal vs Liverpool was the last of the seven goals scored in the game. An absolute cracking long range goal from former Reading midfielder Sidwell, into the top corner of Pepe Reina’s net from the edge of the box.

This Darron Gibson goal vs Schalke gave Manchester United a 2-0 lead in the second leg of their Champions League tie over German side Schalke 04. The Gibson goal against Schalke came minutes after the midfielder had produced a stunning pass to set up Luis Valencia for Manchester United’s first game.

The Gibson goal vs Schalke was also an error/howler from Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer, who had a stunning game when his side lost 2-0 to Man United in the first leg. Neuer somewhat shockingly failed to get behind the ball and Gibson’s shot to richochett off the post and into the net. Elementary error from Neuer, who is set to leave Schalke in the summer.

This Frank Lampard goal vs Tottenham gave Chelsea an equaliser in their Premier League game vs Spurs on 30/4/11. The Lampard goal vs Spurs came on the stroke of half time, after a stunning Sandro goal had given Spurs the lead.

The Lampard goal against Tottenham was a controversial one, with Spurs claiming that the ball had not crossed the line and the linesman and referee Andre Marriner ruling in Chelsea’s favour. It was also another howler from Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes, who let Lampard’s 30 yard effort slip through his fingers. Replays showing the Lampard goal vs Spurs proved controversial, but the goal certainly renewed claims for the use of goalline technology. Lampard, if you remember, was the English player who had a goal disallowed in the World Cup that brought about a debate for goalline technology.

This Pepe red card vs Barcelona saw Real Madrid reduced to ten men in the first leg of their Champions League 2011 Semifinal against their arch rivals. The Pepe red card came minutes after the Portuguese defender had played his part in getting Javier Mascherano a yellow card. Referee Wolfgang Stark awarded the Pepe red card against Barcelona for a studs up challenge on Barcelona’s Daniel Alves.

Pepe’s red card was however not the only red card awarded in the game, with Barca’s substitute keeper Jose Pinto and Real manager Jose Mourinho also getting red cards.

The Simon Cox goal against Tottenham has also probably put paid to Tottenham’s ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League next season, given Spurs’ tough upcoming schedule.

This Balotelli Ferdinand fight took place right after the FA Cup semifinal between Manchester United and Man City, which the latter edged 1-0, thanks to a solitary Yaya Toure goal.

Both Mario Balotelli and Rio Ferdinand are known for their fragile tempers and it is no wonder that the two got involved in a fight. Ferdinand was on the verge of grabbing Balotelli’s shirt, but the Balotelli vs Ferdinand fight was broken up by Man City manager Roberto Mancini and his assistant David Platt.

This Yaya Toure goal vs Manchester United allowed Manchester City to take the lead against their great neighbours in the semifinals of the FA Cup 2011. The Toure goal vs Man Utd came seven minutes into the second half and was a vital turning point in the game after United had dominated the first half. The goal scored by Y.Toure v Man United was also the winner of the semi final, allowing Man City to progress to the finals at the expense of their rivals.

A Michael Carrick mistake was responsible for the Yaya Toure goal against Man United, with the midfielder sloppily losing possession to Toure, who then used his pace and power to evade Nemanja Vidic and finish well.

This Cristiano Ronaldo goal vs Tottenham sealed the European fate of Spurs in the second leg quarterfinal Champions League clash between the two sides at White Hart Lane on April 13, 2011. The Ronaldo goal vs Spurs came because of a howler from Heurelho Gomes, Spurs’ Brazilian keeper.

Gomes made a hash of Ronaldo’s long range effort ( 25 yards out) and try as he did to rectify his error, the ball crossed the line and went in to give Real Madrid a 1-0 lead ( 5-0 on aggregate). The Gomes howler was an important turning point in the game as it put the game beyond Tottenham’s reach

This stunning Quinonez Wilson free kick has created a record for being the world’s longest ever free kick. The Quinonez Wilson goal was scored against Club Cerro Porteño PF from an amazing distance of nearly 83m out ( see goal video below) on 9/4/11 ( 9th April, 2011). Quinonez Wilson, for the uninitiated, is a goalkeeper for Paraguayan second division side Sport Colombia.

From just outside his own box ( and from millions of yards away from the opposition box), Wilson fires the free kick into the opposition keeper’s goal- absolutely amazing freekick. He however does receive a yellow card from the referee for his goal celebration.

This wonderful Angel Di Maria goal vs Tottenham was the highlight of Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Spurs in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal. The Di Maria goal against Tottenham was the third of the game, and came in the second half after Emmanuel Adebayor’s brace had put Real ahead.

The Di Maria goal vs Spurs was an excellent left footed strike from the Argentine winger, a goal that Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes could do little to stop.

This Peter Crouch red card vs Real Madrid cost Tottenham dearly as they were beaten 4-0 by Los Blancos in the first leg of their Champions League. The Crouch red card vs Real came within the first quarter of the CL fixture, meaning that Tottenham had to play over 70 minutes with ten men.

Crouch first picked up a yellow card for a foul on Sergio Ramos and then earned a second yellow for a foul on Marcelo that led to the referee giving him a red card and his marching orders.

This Gyan goal vs England came in the 91st minute of Ghana’s friendly vs England at Wembley on 29/3/11. It was the first ever meeting between England and Ghana and the Gyan goal against England allowed the Black Stars to cancel out Andy Carroll’s opener for England. This controversial Dirk Kuyt penalty vs Sunderland gave Liverpool the lead in their Premier League fixture against the Black Cats on March 20, 2011. Liverpool eventually won 2-0 against Sunderland.

The Kuyt penalty vs Sunderland was scored in the 34th minute of the game. The penalty against Sunderland was awarded after Jay Spearing had been fouled by John Mensah. The foul was outside the box, leading to referee Kevin Friend pointing for the free kick, but in a controversial decision, the linesman deemed that it was a penalty. The Suarez goal vs Sunderland was an example of excellent finishing from the Uruguayan forward as he found the back of the net from a tight looking angle. Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet was anticipating a cross rather than an attempt on goal from Suarez.

The Ramires goal against Man City was an excellent individual goal from the Brazilian midfielder as he skipped past several Man City defenders before adding the final touch and beating Hart. Before Ramires’ goal, Chelsea had taken the lead via a David Luiz headed goal .
