The Wales international was expected to sit out the remainder of the season after fracturing his ankle in a Premier League clash with Sunderland on 1st September.

Taylor is, however, well on the road to recovery and believes he could be running again in the not too distant future.

He is reluctant to put a timescale on his recovery, but is delighted with the progress he has made to this point.

"I'm at the six-week stage today, and now I'm out of the cast and wearing a boot," Taylor told the club's official website.

"I'm at the stage where I'm looking to get rid of the crutches over the next week or two and get walking normally with the boot on.

"The six weeks seems to have gone fast, even though the first two weeks didn't seem like that at all.

"It feels like I have got somewhere, and I am told I am quite far ahead of where I should be, which is pleasing.

"Whenever you break a bone they say it is usually 12 weeks before you get strong enough to start jogging and things like that.

"At the end of the next six weeks I want to be able to jog. If I'm jogging by 12 weeks it will almost be a miracle the surgeons will say."

On a possible return date, Taylor added: "The quicker I can get back the better, but I have to be sensible too and be patient so that I come back as good as ever.

"I am being positive, but I can't get ahead of myself at the same time. I have to get it right."

Taylor Swift UK Tour To Begin Next Week

Taylor Swift will begin her much-anticipated UK tour next week, at Birmingham LG Arena on Tuesday 22nd March. The singer will go on to play at the London Wembley Arena and the Manchester Evening News Arena, as well as Irish venues.

The tour follows the release of the popular 2010 album, Fearless.

James Taylor Breaks Leg On Skiing Holiday

Singer-songwriter James Taylor has broken his leg in a skiing accident. The star was holidaying in Utah on Monday.

An assistant has confirmed the news, telling the Boston Globe newspaper that Taylor fractured his leg on the first day of a family vacation.

It remains to be known as to whether the incident will affect Taylor’s UK tour plans, with shows scheduled to take place this summer.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been dealt a double injury blow with Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor both ruled out of the clash with Sunderland.

Carroll has failed to recover from a thigh problem while Taylor has been hit with hamstring trouble.

Pardew was eager to have his two local heroes in the starting line-up for this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby but has been forced to rejig his side.

And with Cheik Tiote also banned for the game after a red card against Stevenage in the FA Cup last week, United will have to make several changes.

“It’s devastating for Andy because it was a game he really wanted to play in but he is out of the game with Sunderland,” Pardew said on Friday.

The recently appointed United manager must also wait for the results of a late fitness test on Shola Ameobi but defender Jose Enrique has recovered from flu and Jonas Gutierrez returns after a dead leg.

Pardew said: “Training has been very good since Tuesday and I have been happy with it. Morale has been fine. It was disappointing to be knocked out of the Cup at Stevenage, but all we are focusing on is Sunday and what we can achieve in the game, nothing else.”

Pardew has been in the hunt for Jay Bothroyd in the January transfer window, with the Cardiff City striker unable to agree a new contract with the Bluebirds.

Negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs regarding a fee for the player, whose contract will be up in the summer.

“We are obviously trying to get players in but that will not be in time for Sunday,” a guarded Pardew said.Meanwhile, former Sunderland star Danny Simpson is set for a rough ride from the Sunderland fans but the former Manchester United man is looking forward to the game.

He said: “I am looking forward to it. I have a lot of friends at Sunderland and I have said that before. If I take some stick from their fans then I will relish that.”

“Hopefully, we can do well and beat them like last time we met.”

Taylor extends Newcastle stay

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has shown faith in new manager Alan Pardew by committing to a five-and-a-half year deal.

Taylor, 24, was transfer-listed earlier in the season as contract talks stalled at St James’ Park, and the sacking of popular manager Chris Hughton fuelled speculation the versatile defender would be walking away from the club in January.

But Pardew always maintained that Taylor was a required player at the Magpies, and the former England Under-21 captain has responded by committing until July 2016.

“I am absolutely delighted to have agreed terms with the club on a new long-term contract that will see me play for Newcastle United in my prime years,” Taylor said in a statement.

“I joined the club as a boy and feel confident that I can fulfil all my professional ambitions here at my hometown club.”

“Throughout the past few months, I have never lost hope that everything could be sorted and that I could stay here and play for this fantastic football club.”

“I would like to thank the fans for their support throughout the contract negotiations and I’ll look to repay them with my performances in the black and white shirt.”

Taylor becomes the third Newcastle player to sign a long-term deal in the last month, following on from Mike Williamson and Nile Ranger.

Pardew said he was delighted to retain the services of the defender, a bright prospect who was reportedly being monitored by several Premier League clubs.

“I’ve always really admired Steven Taylor and I thought it was imperative that we kept him here. He’s still young, he’s a Geordie and he’s a top defender,” Pardew said.

“He’s played a lot of games for somebody his age, played in Europe and captained his country at Under-21 level, and that says everything you need to know about him.”

“Steven is somebody who can be a bedrock of our defence for a long time to come, and it’s great news that he’s staying. I made it one of my priorities when I arrived. Steven is just the sort of player that we need to keep at this club.”
