Mourinho to Man City, Tevez to Real Madrid

In whats expected be the first ever player-for-manager swap, disgruntled and home sick Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is expected to be swapped for “the special one” Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

Tevez, who has been unhappy at City, has been making everyone sick of his incessant whining for some time and has said today he definitely wants to leave the club. Tevez’s family, his primary reason for wanting to leave, never settled in England, and eventually returned home to South America. The main barriers to them staying in England were reported to be the climate and language, both of which would be out of the equation in Spain. He would fit well into the Real side, and could take Kaka’s place in the lineup when he leaves for Arsenal over the summer.

Mourinho has had many well publicized spats with the directors at Real, but that really isn’t enough to open a rift large enough to get him fired. what will get you fired at Madrid, more than anything else, is having a spat with a player who is integral to the club. Mourinho has made this mistake in his recent dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo isn’t just a big player, and prestige talisman for the club, he sells the most jersey and brings in the most money of any player in the world. For that reason alone Madrid will never sell him to City as the rumors have suggested. The Daily Mail maybe be reporting that they will sell him for 150m, but they also thought the war in Iraq, British imperialism, and Marmite were good ideas so we won’t be trusting the judgement of their editors thank you.

For all those reasons, it seems likely Mourinho will leave sunny Spain, for his much desired return to the Premiership, and with the two being roughly equal in value, and prestige, its seems a natural choice for them to be swapped in and out of Manchester City jersey.

I for one, will welcome the new Portuguese overlord of the blue side of Manchester, and look forward to watching him spar with Sir Alex on a regular basis.

UEFA Hand Real Madrid Boss Jose Mourinho Five Match European Ban

Jose Mourinho has been given a five-match European ban for his conduct after Real Madrid’s Champions League semi-final first-leg against Barcelona.

Uefa said it was “inappropriate” for the Madrid coach to accuse them – and referees – of trying to help Barcelona win, following Real’s 2-0 home defeat.

Mourinho served one match of the ban in the second leg, and another of the five games is suspended for three years.

Madrid have announced they will appeal against Mourinho’s punishment.

“Real Madrid considers this resolution still suffers from the same defects found at the start of the disciplinary case, which made it impossible for our coach to use his right to defend himself,” read a statement on the club’s website.

They claim that the exact statements for which the disciplinary case was opened are “still unknown”.

European football’s governing body also banned Barcelona keeper Jose Pinto from the Champions League final, while Real’s Pepe – who was sent off in the match – has been handed a one-match ban.

Former Chelsea manager Mourinho – who has also been fined 50,000 euros by Uefa’s control and disciplinary panel – will miss Madrid’s first three European games next season for his sending-off, and the outspoken comments that followed, after the club’s first-leg loss. (BBC Sport)

This is not all together surprising as UEFA, as inept as they appear to be, are not likely to stand idly by as a manager accuses them of being in cahoots with Barcelona. I was actually expecting a longer ban and one wonders whether Jose Mourinho will be at Real Madrid next term to serve the suspension as many sources believe the Bernabeu side may opt to axe the ‘Special One’ this summer.

Even former president Ramon Calderon has stated that the Portuguese boss has harmed the club’s reputation and clearly losing out to Barcelona in La Liga and the Champions League is not something the club’s board will take lightly, not least because Mourinho spent a small fortune on the likes of …. only to see his side end up even further behind their Catalan rivals than before.

Manuel Pellegrini was sacked last summer even though he collected a record haul of 96 points in the La Liga season and finished just three points adrift of Barcelona. This term the gap is currently eight points and Barcelona can secure the title this weekend if results go their way.

Real Madrid Set to Sack Jose Mourinho

hierarchy are furious over Mourinho’s embarrassing behaviour during and after the Champions League semi-final defeat by Barcelona.

Mourinho and Real face UEFA charges after the gobby Portuguese boss launched a petulant attack on ref Wolfgang Stark as well as European football’s rulers.

The Special One’s standing among the Bernabeu bigwigs was not helped by a 3-2 home defeat to relegation threatened Real Zaragoza in La Liga last night, when Ricardo Carvalho’s late sending off added to their disciplinary woes.

And unless Real pull off an unlikely escape against arch rivals Barca in the return leg at the Nou Camp on Tuesday, Mourinho’s job is under severe threat.

Mourinho’s shadow would loom large over several Premier League managers, not least Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.

Ironically, Mourinho’s old club Chelsea could also be on the lookout for a new manager this summer with Carlo Ancelotti likely to be sacked, and in turn a job at the Bernabeu might just appeal to Ancelotti. (People)

Anyone who thinks Real Madrid’s board would not act so swiftly to axe a boss just needs to recall that Manuel Pellegrini was sacked after one season in charge, a season that saw the Bernabeu club pick up their biggest ever La Liga points haul!

It seems that Jose Mourinho’s behaviour in recent weeks has angered the club’s top dogs although they must surely have known what to expect when they hired the former Inter Milan, Porto and Chelsea man, the Portuguese man is of course known for being outspoken and doesn’t not stand on ceremony.

It seems that far worse than Mourinho’s post Barcelona defeat rant last week was the reported bust up between the ‘Special One’ and Cristiano Ronaldo, which led to the club’s top scorer being dropped for their shock home defeat to Real Zaragoza.

Pep Guardiola lays into Mourinho

The lead in to Barca vs Real is just as fascinating. The normally composed Pep Guardiola finally lays into Jose Mourinho. The Guardian has an English transcript along with a bit about what sparked this row.

"Mourinho es el puto amo". Sort of dismaying because we now have the spectacle of Guardiola coming down to Mourinho's level. On the other hand, this is the sort of stuff that can fire up both squads in a game of such immeasurable magnitude. It is a sign of Mourinho's genius that a €500m team gets to play victim while all the pressure is on Barca to prove themselves.

Mourinho brings all his big guns against Spurs

Jose Mourinho will risk bringing back Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo even as they remain injury doubts. Fans are divided on this issue with half of them urging Mourinho to take his chances and the rest characterizing it as a foolhardy decision. Their Liga aspirations are all but over so they might as well go for broke in the biggest title. It has been 7 years and 12 days since Real played the Champions League quarterfinals.

Real Madrid: Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho, Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Mesut Özil, Angel Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Many intriguing scenarios. Amongst them - the presence of CR7, Carvalho, and Adebayor who've had success against Spurs while in the Premiership. What will make Pepe lose his cool? And try decapitating his opponent.

In other news, Harry Redknapp slapped a £80m price tag on Bale on the eve of the Real match after the winger expressed his desire to play in Europe. Mmmmmm. The timing is impeccable.

Downcast Mourinho rues luck

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho was disconsolate after his celebrated nine-year unbeaten run in home games came to an end on Saturday.

Real stunned the San Bernabeu faithful and their manager with a dismal 1-0 loss to lowly Sporting Gijon, a result that all but seals the La Liga title for fierce rivals Barcelona.

The shock defeat also brings to a close Mourinho’s nine-year, 150-match unbeaten league home record as a football manager, a streak that begun at Portuguese club Porto and encompassed spells at Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Mourinho was unable to call on a number of star players for the fixture, including Portuguese ace Cristiano Ronaldo, French goal-machine Karim Benzema and Spanish World Cup winner Xabi Alonso.

Their absence showed as Real played well below their best.

A downcast Mourinho was in no mood to praise Sporting after the game, saying the visitors simply had luck on their side on Saturday.

“Football is football. We had many chances to score one, two, three, four and five metres away from target,” the Portuguese manager said.

“Sporting defended, defended and defended, and then they scored a goal. We had six chances on goal, but we were unlucky. That’s football for you.”

“Our opponent hardly attacked. We didn’t have to pressurise more in attack nor defend more strongly. We simply had to score a goal.”

“My men know they can win or lose. You win and lose one way or another, but you can lose with dignity.”

“We were aware of our limitations before the game. Luck plays a role in this game and our opponent had all of it tonight.”

“We lacked our most creative players and we knew it. Only (Mesut) Ozil was out there. Cristiano, Benzema, Xabi Alonso and Marcelo are our most creative men.”

“Lacking creation against a team that defends fiercely forces you to play a straightforward game.”

Despite the setback, Mourinho is confident Real have the ability to withstand Tottenham when the English Premier League team visits in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“Xabi Alonso will play on Tuesday (against Tottenham in the Champions League) and he’s the only one who can change our style a little,” he said.

“(But) we can earn a different result on Tuesday with the same players.”

Meanwhile Mourinho suffered the first blemish on an otherwise unblemished home game record when Real Madrid were beaten 1- 0 by Sporting Gijjon

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho wants to manage in the Barclays Premier League again to tackle “unfinished business”.

Mourinho left Chelsea in 2007 after a hugely successful spell at Stamford Bridge before winning the Serie A title and Champions League with Inter Milan last season. The Portuguese coach is contracted to Real for another three years – but maintains he is planning to return to England sooner rather than later.”I miss England and my next job will be in England,” he told The Sun. “There is unfinished business. And I think England wants me back, no? It was the most enjoyable time of my career.”Focusing on Madrid’s fortunes, Mourinho believes his team has the edge on Tottenham and is confident he can end the London club’s Champions League run in the quarter-finals.Spurs’ debut Champions League campaign has already delivered famous wins against Inter and AC Milan, and the reward for Harry Redknapp’s side is a glamorous last-eight encounter against the Spanish giants.Mourinho concedes he has some misgivings about coming up against the tournament dark horses, but admits he is at least approaching the tie with more relish than he did last year’s last-16 encounter with former club Chelsea.”I didn’t want Chelsea-Inter, because last season it was difficult to play against Chelsea,” he told BBC Radio 5.”I did it, and I did everything I could to help my team, but I was not comfortable. Mourinho motivated for city derby

Jose Mourinho insists Real Madrid are fully committed to winning the capital city derby against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Real beat Lyon 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday to reach the last eight of the competition for the first time since 2004.

Star man Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to withdraw after 70 minutes of the European tie and is in doubt for the Madrid derby.

Jose Mourinho insists Real Madrid are fully committed to winning the capital city derby against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Real beat Lyon 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday to reach the last eight of the competition for the first time since 2004.

Star man Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to withdraw after 70 minutes of the European tie and is in doubt for the Madrid derby.

Mourinho unfazed by stabbing attempt

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he was unaware of the attempted airport knife attack that left a security guard injured.

Mourinho was signing autographs at La Coruna airport on Friday when a man tried to attack the Portuguse manager with a blade.

The incident left a bodyguard with a four-centimetre wound, but Mourinho apparently had no knowledge of his lucky escape.

“I don’t know anything,” Mourinho said.

“I haven’t seen or felt anything. I got there, arrived at the hotel and went back to Madrid… I didn’t see anything. If something happened, then I didn’t see it.”

“There is no story … we had the normal security that we always have. It isn’t to protect against attack, rather against the passion of the fans. Nothing happened to me.”

Mourinho also confirmed that Kaka will not be rushed back as the Brazil midfielder struggles to regain form following a knee injury.

“That is something for Kaka and the medical department,” Mourinho said.

“I got the information from the player about a small problem that limits his movement and agility, that he doesn’t feel happy when he isn’t at his best.”

“For that reason, he and the medical department have decided that -for his self esteem as much as anything- that he will return when he is convinced of being 100% better.”

Real travel to Racing Santander on Sunday without injured star Cristiano Ronaldo and Mourinho admits the team will be weaker without the Portugal captain.

“Cristiano is too important for us to say that we won’t miss him,” Mourinho said.

“We won’t have the same power without him.”

“We aren’t going to be hypocritical and say things that we don’t mean. We know that it will be difficult – more difficult without Cristiano – but we still have the same aims for this match.”

Mourinho escapes knife attack

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has survived a knife attack in a Spanish airport that left his bodyguard with a 4cm stab wound.

Former Chelsea manager Mourinho was moving through the La Coruna airport and signing autographs for Real fans when a man armed with a knife approached.

One of Mourinho’s minders thought he had been punched by the attacker as they moved through the crowd before discovering a wound near his armpit when they boarded the team bus.

Mourinho was only told about the full extent of the incident on Friday, a week after it happened. Police are investigating the attack using security camera footage from the airport.

El Periodico reported: “Mourinho stopped to sign autographs in arrivals, where a large number of Madrid fans were waiting for the team.”

“The bodyguard was near the manager and noticed he had been stabbed in the armpit. Mourinho was very worried by the incident.”

The club said it suspects the attack was intended for Mourinho. It will arrange increased security around its coach while police investigate.

Mourinho slammed the calendar following Real’s 0-0 draw at Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday, which left his side trailing league leaders Barcelona by seven points.

After that match, the former Inter Milan manager said his players were still tired from their Champions League fixture at Olympique Lyon on Tuesday and deserved an extra day to recover.

Speaking ahead of Malaga’s trip to the San Bernabeu on Thursday, Mourinho pointed out that Barca have been afforded that advantage, with Pep Guardiola’s men not due to face Sevilla until the Sunday after their Tuesday meet with Arsenal next week.

In contrast, fellow Champions League contenders Valencia will travel to Schalke on Wednesday before facing Real Zaragoza in the Spanish league on Saturday; a situation Mourinho said was clear bias in favour of Barcelona.

The complaint drew criticism from one Spanish journalist, who was called a hypocrite by the Real boss, though Mourinho later offered an apology.

“There are people who, when they have to say something, send someone else out to do it,” Mourinho said.

“Here it is I who comes out. I never send the players out, like other clubs do.”

“To give a bit more perspective, because I feel bad about how I responded to that journalist, the situation is very simple: Is it true or not that one team plays Tuesday and Sunday, whilst another team plays Wednesday and Saturday?”

“If you tell me that it is a lie, then there is nothing left to say. If you say that it is true, then they aren’t complaints. They are truths. But I apologise again.”

Mourinho also urged patience with Brazilian midfielder Kaka, who has yet to fire since returning from knee surgery last month.

“I didn’t expect Kaka to come back so soon and to have the same player here who did marvellous things with AC Milan,” Mourinho said.

“He is a Ballon d’Or winner. His comeback is a normal process, it is natural and difficult and he is working to be at his best on the pitch.”

“There are games that aren’t as well suited to him, but the team have to keep on supporting him and giving him opportunities to play and improve.”

Mourinho fires scheduling shot

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho believes the La Liga schedule had a role to play in his team’s 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruna.

Second-placed Real’s failure to win on Saturday means they are now seven points behind league leaders Barcelona in the race for the title.

Real travelled to Lyon in the Champions League on Tuesday and Mourinho believes it would have more suitable for their subsequent domestic match to have been played a day later.

“The schedule is decided by people who know what they are doing,” Mourinho said.

“Playing on Sunday would have been the normal thing to do. The people who drew up the calendar knew what they were doing.”

“People laugh behind my back, but I will continue speaking out against a situation that is clear to everyone. It is something that is impossible to deny, but that’s a whole other matter.”

Real dominated throughout at the Estadio Riazor, but a combination of Depor goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia and the woodwork denied the visitors from the Spanish capital.

“Deportivo practically didn’t touch the ball in the second half and we played against a goalkeeper and ten defenders,” Mourinho said.

“All that matters is the outcome, but I cannot criticize my players. One team played to win and the other worked very hard to take one point. The team that was after the point got what it wanted. I think it would have been fair had the match ended 0-1.”

“Deportivo can play however they want. I have nothing to say in that respect. I am sure they are pleased with the point. They played their match and worked hard. If they play this way in every match, I am sure they would be competing for a Europa League spot.”

“Seven points (behind Barca) is a lot, but mathematics play an important role and we will continue as long as it’s possible.”
