Arsenal and Manchester City both won at the top of the Premier League, while Crystal Palace and Norwich bagged crucial victories at the bottom.
Santi Cazorla scored two second-half goals to earn Arsenal a 2-0 win over Fulham at Emirates Stadium to keep them a point clear at the top of Manchester City, who beat Cardiff City 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium.
At the other end, meanwhile, Crystal Palace claimed a huge 1-0 win over Tony Pulis' former club Stoke to move them out of the relegation zone.
West Ham dropped into it courtesy of a 3-1 home defeat to Newcastle, while Norwich climbed to 12th with a 1-0 win over Hull City at Carrow Road secured by a late Ryan Bennett goal.
Sunderland came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Southampton at the Stadium of Light in the day's early kick-off.
