Stoke and Cardiff are in talks over a swap deal involving Peter Odemwingie and Kenwyne Jones, Sky sources understand.
Jones is looking to leave Stoke after falling out of favour under Mark Hughes and Cardiff are set to offer him the chance to move to South Wales.
In return Odwemingie, who only joined Cardiff in the summer from West Brom, could be set for a quick return to the Midlands.
The 29-year-old Jones, who joined Stoke from Sunderland in 2010, has started just four Premier League games this season and is yet to score in the top-flight this term.
Odemwingie, 31, has scored just once for Cardiff since his move from the Baggies.
