Ousmane Dabo is set to end his career in Major League Soccer, and the Frenchman has no illusions about his likely impact in the United States.
Dabo, 33, is a free agent after leaving Serie A club Lazio after his contract expired in June 2010.
The former Manchester City and Inter Milan midfielder is in contract negotiations with MLS officials, but it is not yet known which franchise he will appear for.
“It is under way,” Dabo told France Football, referring to the deal that will take him to the US.
“I am not interested in playing in Europe anymore. I have played here 15 years.”
“My career is done. Over there, salaries are nowhere near what they are in Europe, except for superstars such as Henry and Beckham. I am a defensive midfielder, I am almost 34. I will not be the one selling shirts.”
Dabo began his career with Stade Rennais in 1995 and also played for Parma, Monaco and Atlanta.
He was capped three times for France but is likely to be best remembered as the victim of a training-ground attack by then Manchester City teammate Joey Barton, who later pleaded guilty to assault.
