Spurs striker Jermain Defore has hailed the influence of David Beckham, who began training with the English Premier League club on Tuesday.
Defoe, who has played alongside Beckham at international level, believes the midfielder’s professionalism will rub off on some of the younger players at White Hart Lane. While only in a training capacity, Spurs are reportedly still hopeful of landing the 35-year-old on loan from LA Galaxy while the MLS is in its off-season.
“I think Becks will add something different because he’s experienced, he’s been there, he’s done it,” Defoe said.
“He’s won titles in England, he went to Spain and done the same thing.”
“All his England caps and just that experience and presence, I think, will just lift not just the players but lift the whole club and the fans. I think by doing that the fans will be buzzing and that will just lift all the players as well.”
Defoe returns to the Spurs team for their home clash with league-leaders Manchester United on Sunday after serving a three-match ban, and the 28-year-old believes his side has good chance of getting a result.
“Manchester United are a tough team. I don’t think they’ve played as well as they normally do, but saying that they’re not losing games,” he said.
“With the players they’ve got they can just turn it on. It just takes one game”.
“We’re looking forward to the game and I think they know, coming to White Hart Lane, that it’s going to be a difficult game because we create a lot of chances at home.”
“We’re an attacking team and I’m sure it will be a great game to watch and play in.”
