Celebrating 500 matches for the Captain

Yes, indeed, England’s Brave John Terry celebrated his 500th Chelsea appearance on Saturday against Tottenham.

The Captain is only the fifth player to reach the 500-game landmark for the Blues: alongside legends Peter Bonetti, Chopper Harris, John Hollins, and the vice-captain, Frank Lampard.

John Terry has been part of Chelsea through all of our recent successes, from the original climb up to a Champions League position to our current period under Roman Abramovich. He’s the most successful captain in our history, lifting two League Cup trophies, two Community Shield trophies, three FA Cup trophies, and three Premier League trophies, of course, including the Double last season.

He’s our leader. Frank might be the engine, but JT calls the troops to duty. It has to be hard to help control some of the egos that can be part of our dressing room, but JT does it. Not to mention he is one of the best central defenders in Europe. He may not have the greatest pace, but he’s good at reading the game and knowing what to do with the ball. He’s scored some fantastic goals, becoming Chelsea’s top-scoring defender, and provided some amazing long balls up the pitch that can lead to goals.

So here’s the chance to open up a discussion to my fellow Chelsea fans: What is your favorite John Terry moment? The obvious candidates: Captain Fantastic celebrating the Double last year for the first time in the club’s history and his goal against Barcelona that sent the Spanish giants out of the Champions League in 2005 (his personal favorite moment). Maybe you guys can come up with some others. Have at it. And a huge congrats to the Captain!
