More Dani Pacheco Goodness

By: Ed | November 24th, 2010

From yesterday’s mini-derby (at least until it’s yanked):

I guess we’re in agreement that he has something resembling talent. Apparently he and Suso put together quite the performance—the official site’s got a full rundown, and you snobs with the eSeason ticket can catch up on the full match there. Encouraging stuff from him, considering we’re less than a week away from Sammy Lee proclaiming that they needed to see more progress from him if he’s going to break into the first team. The display against Blackpool that Noel highlighted was damned impressive, and this goal is not exactly run-of-the-mill reserves stuff. We keep telling ourselves it’s only a matter of time, but…it’s only a matter of time, right?

Anyhow, as Noel said yesterday, I had planned on putting together a lengthier post for today. Lucky for me, I’ve been engaged in holiday travel mode a little earlier than expected and have been a bit scattered. I’ll be back by Saturday for the preview, but it’s not looking good for anything prior to that. Doubtful that it’s cause for any panic for anyone though, as Noel’s been basically taking the place over in recent weeks.

Enjoy your holiday for those of you stateside, and for those who aren’t…I’m sure you’ll find a reason to drink on a Wednesday. Like this, for instance—Roy Hodgson’s proclamation that Glen Johnson finally lived up to his expectations. You can almost hear the clap as he pats himself on the back. “Fucking hell of a job old man, calling him out last week. No wonder you’ve been across Europe and back again, you handsome bastard.”

« Cole and Hazard and Rafa, Oh My | Home | Red2deathPacheco... all he did was beat one defender and chip the keeper. More evidence of our extremely thin squad. We need real quality like Carlton Cole or Bobby Zamora. Pacheco wouldn't even make my former Fulham squad. Ship him off to Barcelona or Real, they'd probably settle for his ilk, what with their fluffy convoluted tactics and all.

Honestly though, for all the talk of rubbish signings by Roy, some of the names we're linked to this time round are interesting. Hazard, Griezmann, Young, Benzema, even Toivonen, and the highly improbably Llorente. Thing is, getting them to come is one thing, playing them properly is a totally different issue, and then the challenge of keeping them after we finish in mid-table.

We all know that poor players under Hodgson might actually perform better, like his Fulham team, and conversely good players under him perform worse. Torres under Hodgson isn't half the striker he used to be. Meireles is great for Portugal, but doesn't do half as well stuck out on the wing, for obvious reasons. Pacheco and Agger don't even make the squad - and that's actually one better than what happened to Aquilani and Insua. And of course Glen Johnson was crap until Roy gave him a much-needed reminder of his ability that he'd seemed to have lost coincidentally ever since the beginning of this season. So, if we get Hazard or Llorente, under Hodgson would they end up performing like they belong at Portsmouth rather than Liverpool? Quite possibly.

Jay Wrightyea, moves like that don't work in the Premiership though - in the Premiership you don't ever get any space to run at players and the goalkeepers are giants so chips like that would never work. We should get rid of him while his stock is high elsewhere, with him being recognised as one of the best young talents in Europe, and let him try that kind of foolishness elsewhere, while we get a proven talent like Kranjcar...

Pass & move and technical football may work in La Liga or in the international game, but there's no way that it could work for Liverpool - more hard workers please!!EdIndustry and a strong hoofing leg is all it takes, boys.blog comments powered by Disqus
