Dean Richards 1974-2011

796Former Tottenham defender Dean Richards died at the tragically early age of 36 yesterday from the long term illness which caused him to quit football in 2005.

The former Bradford, Wolves and Southampton player joined Spurs under Glenn Hoddle in an £8.1 million deal in 2001, which made him the most expensive player never to have won an international cap.

Dean was a powerful central defender who struggled to find his best form at Spurs due to injuries but still made 73 appearances for our club.

Wolves and Spurs are planning a tribute to Dean before our next game which is at Molineux on 6th March.

The Offside would like to extend our sincere condolences to Dean’s family at this time.
