Highlights after the jump, since apparently the FA loves autoplay.
As mentioned in the comments yesterday, England’s U19 squad got past their Slovakian counterparts 2-0 at Gresty Road in Crewe in a warm-up for their Euro qualifying, set to begin October 8th in Belgium.
The win was largely down to the performance of three Liverpool boys—Michael Ngoo netted the opener (:45) after 16 minutes, Jonjo Shelvey started the match as captained and scored the second on a fantastic free kick in the 72nd minute (1:40) as part of a Man of the Match performance (just watch the sequence after his goal—great distribution, good chance on goal, inch-perfect through-ball for Ngoo, and a nice turn in slo-mo) and Andre Wisdom played a full 90 as part of a defense that kept a clean sheet.
So it was a good day for the youngsters ahead of today’s congested fixture list for the senior internationals—as I outlined yesterday, there’s a possibility we could see 8 Liverpool men in action today. Just think happy thoughts.
Another slow news day, though, and it’s not likely to pick up on the Liverpool front until Wednesday. The internationals will keep us busy until then, but judging by yesterday’s comments section there’s not too much energy surrounding the international break. Post up later today or tomorrow ahead of Jamie Carragher’s Anfield testimonial—should be a fantastic event.

...but fair to say I wouldn't be wagering ...on ...what?
Oh, international friendlies, you say? How exciting.
Le Sigh.
Good showing by Jonjo, though.
EdDespite the fact that I'm currently watching Spain toy with poor, proud Liechtenstein, I had a moment of panic that I had somehow forgotten about a match. Good to see Torres get one, even if now it just makes people say, "He can't do it when it matters for Spain." Except in the last Euro, but that was, like, forever ago.
Regardless, nice eleven. I've copied, pasted, and will use in the next match preview. In the coming days, you'll notice that your comment will disappear, along with this one, enabling me to pass that eleven off as my own creation. Just a heads up for when it draws international acclaim and I become a blogging sensation.Billjonjo showed some great passing and a great goal but did miss two clear cut chances....hopefullly just two mishapsEdHow's his finishing in general, Bill? I'm guess you've seen him a bit more than I, but by all accounts I've read he's generally a reliable finisher for a young midfielder.
And thanks again for the update re: Ngoo yesterday (assuming this is not an impostor Bill).Billi havent seen him much, the only other times i have seen him play is a youtube video of him at charlton and the preseason games... i just saw the highlights on thefa.com and noticed the 2 chances he had...and anytimeblog comments powered by Disqus
