1.Good to see Anderson back and fit. It’ll probably be a couple of weeks before he’s fully match fit, but he should add some much needed steel in our midfield as the games start to pile up with European and Carling Cup midweek encounters. I’m more hopeful for him coming into his own and contributing this season more so than Gibson who may still be a few years away (if at all) from being first team quality.
2.Nani, as important and impressive as he’s been so far, really needs to stop going down in a heap everytime an opposition player makes contact with him. I’m of the opinion that we should back our players who put on the red jersey no matter how poor of an effort or game they may produce from time to time. But there are some things that just seem to violate the integrity and standard of the club. I know that a lot of players do it and I know that Ronaldo was one of the biggest offenders, but it doesn’t make it any more acceptable. Nani has enough talent and skill to get around players and to put in a good shift without resorting to the theatrics that were on display today. This was on more than one occasion and it made me embarrassed at times. For Sir Alex to come out and say that Torres made too much of the challenge from O Shea makes it even worse. It’s painful to read that and realize how hypocritical that is when Nani very easily made a meal out of every single challenge. Please cut that out.
3.We need to solve our defensive issues ASAP. I (and probably every United fan out there) would like to see the partnership of Rio and Vidic on a consistent and injury free basis soon. However, not forgetting that Rio is getting older and Evans is supposed to be our CB of the future. But we simply cannot be throwing away leads. Not with Chelsea continuing their rampant form knocking in 4 goals against Blackpool. I’m not sure if it’s a mental lapse, but that’s 3 games out of 5 where we’ve allowed the opposition back in. This was never a mark of our teams in recent years. Do we need reinforcements at the back come January or do we let Evans play through this patch and just play better collective defense?
4.Sir Alex has been (at least in my eyes) vindicated for resting our key players against Rangers earlier this week as everyone looked fresh from the get go. I also wonder how much of Berbatov’s uptick in form is due to his international retirement. It seems to really work wonders. For United players at least.
