Serie A players have agreed to go on Strike if a deal on a collective contract with the league is not reached by the end of November.
A collective contract between the Italian Players’ Association (AIC) and Serie A guaranteeing players’ rights expired in the summer and attempts to draft a new deal have faltered.
Strike action was avoided in September when the two sides reached an agreement to avoid all games on the third weekend of that month being postponed.
An agreement has yet to be reached and the players’ association have confirmed they will wait until 30th November to announce the date for the strike if a deal cannot be sorted by that date.
A statement from Aic said: “The Serie A players have taken into consideration the approach shown by the Lega, who have turned down the proposal of FIGC president Giancarlo Abete, which is also shared by the Aic, to limit to just six points the negotiations of the Collective Agreement, with the exclusion of two other points (players out of squad and forced transfers), which from the start were not accepted by Aic.

The possibility of a player strike continues to haunt Serie A and whilst it is a tad hard to feel sorry for millionaire footballers it does seem that they have a point. There gripe appears to be in relation to the freedom of movement and the freedom to refuse transfers decided by their clubs as opposed to a players right to choose where his next move would be to.
These sticking points could very well cause a round of fixtures to be cancelled and the cost implications to those who run the Italian league may well lead to them having to accept the changes the players are demanding be made to their contract.
