Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Houston Dynamo announcement, Bolton have added a second team to play on this summer’s United States trip. Much like last year when the Wanderers faced the Charlotte Eagles and Charleston Battery of the then USL-2 division (the third tier of American soccer last season), the Trotters will play another lower league side this off-season.
Today, Orlando City Soccer Club of Orlando, Florida, announced that they will face Bolton on July 17. OCSC currently plays in the USL-Pro League (again, the third tier of American Soccer, just renamed).
While Bolton will be well into their off-season, the match comes right in the middle of Orlando’s season at a heavily congested point. Orlando will play Bolton on the 17th, a league match that weekend, and Newcastle United on the 23rd. The match will be played at the Citrus Bowl, a 70,000 seat football stadium in Orlando.
Orlando City SC’s President, Phil Rawlins, said of the match:
Over the past few years Bolton has established themselves as a top class EPL team and under Owen Coyle’s leadership they have become an exciting attacking team to watch. We are delighted they have chosen to come to Orlando and play us in their preseason preparation.
Here’s hoping that Bolton run riot.
