Fulham 3-0 Bolton

Fulham won with ease as Bolton continued their poor away form. The Cottagers dominated possession, read the game well, always won the ball back and took their chances well – each of Fulham’s goals coming as a result of set-pieces.

But it could well have been a different story as Bolton missed a chance in the first minute to take a lead. Bolton made their way into the Fulham box and the ball ended up at the feet of Muamba who, fortunately, scuffed it into the safe hands of Schwarzer.

After that early scare, Fulham were always comfortable on the ball. Clint Dempsey got the first goal with an excellent volley. Danny Murphy hit a corner that fell to Chris Baird at the far post who then kicked the ball across the box. Dempsey lost his marker and made himself some space to volley it in with panache.

Soon after, Gudjohnsen almost made it two and with Baird almost the assister again. He punted the ball long towards Gudjohnsen who touched it past Jussi Jaaskelainen only for it to hit the post.

Fulham’s second goal came in the second half as a result of a corner. Gudjohnsen flicked the cross to Dempsey who deftly slotted it in for his second. Not long after Fulham got their third goal after a free-kick outside the Bolton box. This time Brede Hangeland rose to meet Murphy’s brilliant delivery to score a trademark towering header.

Bobby Zamora had a goal disallowed, and collected the only yellow card of the game in doing so, when the referee decided that he had handled ball when collecting a superb cross from Simon Davies.

A good night for Fulham and now sitting ninth in the league with 41 points – any relegation worries put to an end. A good night also for Clint Dempsey; his two goals means he is now Fulham’s highest Premier League scorer with 33 goals.
