What to do with Danny Sturridge

Agent Sturridge struck again on Sunday, scoring one of the goals that helped Bolton defeat Arsenal and leave them three points behind Chelsea in third place.

It’s one of the questions we’ve been asking since Studge went out on loan and started scoring goals constantly – what to do with him when the loan spell is over?

Sturridge has scored six goals in seven Premier League matches for Bolton and was ineligible for their FA Cup semifinal last weekend, where they clearly missed his presence and goalscoring ability. It’s refreshing to watch him be able to start matches and score goals, but could that happen for him regularly next season at Chelsea?

The 21-year-old recently stated that he does see his future with the Blues: “I don’t have any other aims but to become a regular [at Chelsea].

“If I can achieve that, then great, but if not I obviously would have to assess what’s going to happen.

“But I’m a Chelsea player and I love playing for the club.”

If we keep all of our strikers in the summer, then Danny might still be behind Drogba, Torres, Kalou and Anelka fighting for a starting place in August. But maybe he will turn out to be the one who can work best with Torres, building up a fearsome young strike partnership. Anelka has even admitted he wouldn’t mind a rotation system and finding himself on the bench occasionally, opening up places for Kalou or someone like Sturridge to get chances.

So what does Studge offer that our other strikers don’t? Well, at the very least, he was scoring goals when none of our forwards could – albeit for another team. And at times when most of our team are happier to pass backwards, Sturridge isn’t afraid to take on opponents and try to get past them. He gets in the box. He’s not flawless, though, of course, but he is still young and can improve, especially if he’s learning from world-class players like Drogba and Torres.

We certainly don’t want to be getting rid of him, but we do need to figure out how to best use him – and our other strikers. The big puzzle.

Tweet « PL Recap: Chelsea 3-0 West Ham | Home | Wisesageknowledgehe is our version of chicharito - a hardworking, passionate player who seems to pop up in the right space at the right time. i would dare to say studge is trickier on the ball, quicker, and with a left foot - a little more exotic. bring him home, dump some others, and give him a shot.VenkatI dont think sturridge and torres would have problem together.. Sturridge has bag full of tricks and pace and so he is comfortable playing in the right.. Just look at his through ball from the right to pick out lee vs arsenal ( Imagine Torres is very good at running behind defenders), it was sublime.. His vision is excellent and he even won a penalty after he forced djororou(ha ha ha) to pull him down!! I just think torres and sturridge would make a fearsome pship for us.. Looking forward to it!! Time for le sulk to leave but i just dont want kalou to leave !!Sethi want Daniel here so very badly. I don't think he can possibly start next year, obviously. I agree with Mateo in that either/both the Sulk and SoKo leave this summer, although Kalou had a decent season and Nico performed well in the CL. I think a Sturridge/Torres partnership has the same issue a Drogba/Torres partnership does, unless one of them (probably Daniel if possible) can be converted into a winger, which, considering his youth and "mouldability" could be possible. if it's not possible to work Sturridge somehow into our system next year/the year after (god forbid), then I think we must sell him to a good club where he can get consistent minutes; we owe him that much.
adding to the problem is the notion that Neymar and Lukaku could be joining up this summer.Farukh Patwarisell drogba malouda and anelka...and bring back sturridge from bolton...and he can play alongside torres, hes proved himself & d only thing he need is first team placeChelseaWe have so many very good young players( Kakuta, Sturridge, Van Anholt, Josh, Bruma...) thats almost half of a lineup. Certainly, over the course of the summer we have to let go of the dead-weights. But the more pressing issue is finding how to incorporate all the young talents. Of course, the first decision the management would have to take is whether or not to keep Ancelotti, and then for the coach to outline his plans.
It's always bittersweet to see players leave , especially if they want to stay (i.e Ballack).
But it's primordial to have a balance of young and veterans in the lineup, and rotation wise.
MateoI want him back (him and Gael) but not back to suck on the bench, but back and playing.
i think atleast one of our strikers will leave next transfer season. (anelka, drogba, kalou) im guessing nico due to his age and lack of regularity, kalou might also walk....i would hope drogba retires with us and become our own striking coach... i dont know how sturridge would peer up with torres as i think both are tip of the blade kind of strikers, and we still havnt found a winger solution, i could see kakuta there insted of flo.... dont know, just random thoughtsfaceofdoomHis major problem is that he's not exotic enough. He's got a name everyone can pronounce, he's not Spanish enough, he's black but not African, has little marketability, can't impress billionaires on yachts, "We have Tevez" "We have Torres" "RVP, baby" "We have Sturridge" - "Who?"

He should consider a name change, getting a more interesting haircut and an attitude problem.
