A repeat of the 2009 season finale, then. The bid, not for Fernando Torres, but for a third consecutive and fourth FA Cup in five years continues at Goodison Park against Everton.
Will this man be fit?Who: Everton
What: FA Cup, fourth round
When: 29 January, 12:30 p.m. local time (7:30am EST)
Where: Goodison Park (40,157)
How: Fox Soccer Channel (DirecTV 619, Dish Network 149)
Why: Well, like I said prior to our tie with Ipswich, this competition, right now, represents our best opportunity for a trophy this season. Sure, our 4-0 win over Bolton on Monday aided in exorcising a few demons. But we still have yet to return to our barnstorming best. An impressive victory at Everton would be further evidence of a CFC renaissance. Another Drogba pillaging? Even better. The ‘moment is good’ according to Carlo. I hope he’s right.
The status of Frank Lampard (calf strain) remains unknown. I would gauge the midfielder will not be tested this weekend. A place on the bench would be a best-case scenario for me. The rest of the usuals are good to go as far as we know. Carlo mentioned in the pre-match presser that he’ll field the strongest team possible – as usual – and with Gael and PVA heading out on loan earlier in the week, I don’t think he has much of an option. There better be reinforcements on the way or we have substantially weakened an already weak side.
Moving on to Everton. They are still without Tim Cahill, the Australian prepping for an Asian Cup final against Japan. Victor Anichebe appears to be the lone injury doubt, though Phil Jagielka is only just back from a groin problem. Expect a proper side from David Moyes, one that will no doubt give us a handful of problems – as it has done in recent years. Fucking Fellaini, man.
The Toffees are unbeaten in three league meetings with us. The last time we actually defeated Everton was that FA Cup Final two years ago (thank you SFL). This will be the ninth meeting between the two clubs in the Cup, of which we have won six. Word.
Projected XI
Bosingwa-Bane-EBJT-Cole
Ramires-Mikel-Essien
Anelka-Drogba-Malouda

Tweet « Poll: Fernando Torres, yay or nay? | Home | Rant Box: Everton v. Chelsea »arn00bTheir strikers are crap and the only threat is the midfield. Moyes is brilliant, but there's nothing he can do with that lot. He will lose, they will blame him, cheer Carlo and life will go on.JackHilarious. But you've now jinxed us.arn00bPart of me wants Chelsea to spur some change in philosophy, but I think nothing will happen.
The funny thing is, if Chelsea lose, theoretically, Everton will see that Moyes is brilliant and give him some money, and Chelsea will see that the situation is bad and spend money. If I were a footballing agent, this is the game to watch.
But in reality, Everton will hang out their empty pockets out of their pants, pout and shrug at Moyes, and Chelsea will raise their collars and go back to the shadows and do whatever it is they do in there. If they lose.
If Chelsea thrash the sorry Everton side who's only playing for fun, then it might send the wrong message, that Chelsea don't need anyone. But Everton are not a CL team and we need to be competing on that level.
If we lose, we just might panic-buy Torres.
I just wonder what our list of priorities is. We couldn't get our #1 midfielder so we moved on from midfield to defense. We couldn't get our #1 defender, so we're getting our #3 striker instead (after Neymar and Aguero) That makes no sense.
Is there any logic behind this? We needed cover for Alex so we'll get Torres? And what was Pienaar supposedly for? What's going on? Let's get Lucas to cover for Cech? He's Brazilian too? Wow! Liverpool won't sell? Let's give them Kakuta to sweeten the deal. What's going on?
JackTorres, since Sheva's disappearance, has been Roman's favorite. No question there. Neymar and Aguero might be better targets to us the supporters, even to Carlo, but Roman gets what Roman wants.
I still think the Luiz deal is on. I expect us to cave and pull it off. Might as well if we're going to throw cash at Torres. This still doesn't explain why we've weakened the squad further by sending players out on loan, however. Just read in AS that we've made an inquiry for Pedro Leon, so perhaps there are further targets that could be signed before Monday. Who knows. These next few days are sure to be madness.
Save all that shit for later. For now, we need a solid win at Goodison.blog comments powered by Disqus
