Just in case you are only now awakening from a drunken stupor in the wake of Manchester City’s stupendous victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup Saturday, we can now confirm the opponent on May 14 in Wembley: Stoke City.
The two clubs have met just once this year, with Stoke claiming a home draw when Matthew Etherington’s injury-time equalizer canceled out a truly stupendous goal by Micah Richards late on. What a stupid way for City to drop two points.
Ironically, the two clubs were already due to play on May 14–in the league at Eastlands. That match is now postponed until May 17, as the two clubs will do battle in back-to-back contests.
We’ll have a detailed look at City’s run-in up shortly. In the meantime, enjoy this discussion of the FA Cup Semifinal on the Total Soccer Show out of Richmond, VA, where I was a guest on Sunday. There’s some reasonably entertaining banter between myself and one of the United-loving hosts, as well as discussion of the the match tactics, Mario Balotelli, Paul Scholes, and much else besides.
