Manchester United to Offer Club Record £40m for Inter Milan Playmaker Wesley Sneijder

40m for Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder this summer. Sir Alex Ferguson has placed the Dutch international at the top of his summer wish-list and San Siro president Massimo Moratti has confirmed interest from the Old Trafford side in the 26 year old midfielder and the Premier League table toppers must now hope that the former Ajax and Real Madrid star is interested in a move to England.

Ferguson hopes to land a goal scoring midfielder to boost his side’s attack and has been assured by the club’s board that funds are available for significant moves in the summer transfer market. Man United may also elect to offload members of their squad in order to help finance any deal with the likes of Gabriel Obertan, Bebe, Wes Brown and Tomasz Kuszczak all linked with exits and Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves unlikely to be offered new deals when their current deals run out at the end of the season.

The success of a move for Sneijder may well have been markedly more realistic during the Rafa Benitez reign but with Leonardo at the Nerazzurri helm things have improved for the Serie A and Champions League title holders.

Manchester United’s main central midfielders do not offer much in the way of attacking momentum with Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Anderson and Paul Scholes not regular marksman or great assist makers and Ferguson is keen to bring in a player who can effectively fill that hole and has set his sights on Wesley Sneijder to perform that role.
