Carling Cup write-off?

By: Aidan | September 5th, 2010

Carling-CupAfter the draw was made last week for the next round of the Carling Cup I’m tempted to write off any hopes of much progression, thanks to being drawn out of the hat (bowl, whatever) to travel down to play Chelsea.

Oh joy, that basically stops that cup run before it’s even got going. Or does it? Chelsea will no doubt field a team of reserves, but then again so will Newcastle.

The only bright side I can see for the fans making the trek down is that the country’s most expensive club to visit (almost £50 for away fans to get a ticket into a league match at Stamford Bridge) will have reduced prices for this one – a mere £20.

Kids or no kids, I’m expecting a bit of a disappointing even on that one, so I’ll keep my focus on next weekends visit of Blackpool in the League!

Disagreed! Especially if our reserve-ish side includes sol campbell, ameobi, lovenkrands, etc, you can never write off the toon!
Check out the bundesliga, newly promoted kaiserslautern beat bayern munchen 2-0. Upsets happen in football all the time. Howay the lads!

This depends on how much Chelski are up for it and their
mentality towards this competition. My opinion is that this is not a major competition and as such they could field a reserve team!
If they are arrogant, and also play that way, then we might have a chance to spring a surprise.
Either way i hope we don,t give up before a ball is even kicked, that would really disappoint me as thats not the Newcastle i want to see!

Chelsea will play a reserve team, but most likely so will we, so who knows how it will turn out!
