Hi everyone. To echo the sentiments of my fellow United Offside blogger, Ian, it is indeed a pleasure to have been selected to write for this site. This post feels a little like the where you’re asked to introduce yourself. Or it’s like a networking event where you wear those incredibly fashionable stick on nametags like so –
I’m Shaun and I’ve been following United for as long as I can remember. The first player I ever called a favorite was Andrei Kanchelskis. There was something so captivating about watching him take on and burn opposing fullbacks with his pace. Seems like a weird choice among the pantheon of legends to have graced Old Trafford. Since then however, my devotion to the team has taken a more holistic approach with a conscious effort to back every player who steps out on the field in the famous red strip (even when their play/effort may have been lacking. not naming names here :) )
I think we’re off to a decent start so far this season. While the Community Shield means nothing, it was nice to gain that psychological boost from beating a near full strength Chelsea side. I think it means more now that Chelsea have been on a tear to start the season. I am a tad disappointed that we didn’t shell out the funds for either Ozil or Van Der Vaart especially when we’ve been so reliant thus far on Scholes who is clearly not going to able to do 2 games in 5 days on a consistent basis. And now that Cleverly has been sent on loan…
So as not to end this first post on a down note, I am incredibly optimistic on our chances this year. Berba seems to be hitting his stride and Chicharito could be good for 10-15 goals. If Rio comes back soon (and stays fit) and Anderson reemerges as the player from 2 years ago, I would really fancy our chances. Both domestically and in Europe.
Rock on United!
