The News of the World, the world renowned source of all knowledge, well sometimes, reports today (I use that very loosely) that poor Avram Grant is under pressure from the West Ham board (read: Gold & Sullivan) to improve results or they will resort to making a “swift change”. Avram Grant was certainly not many fans choice for manager and I suspect Chelsea and Portsmouth fans will say “I told you so”, as Avram Grant does not seem to be the man to motivate the players.
I was reading “tweets” from reporters outside the West Ham training ground on the last day of the transfer window and they said he was just wandering around with his mobile phone. The sight of an overweight middle-aged man wandering around a grassy field doesn’t appear to be very inspiring. The players rallied around Zola and Steve Clark last season and kept the team up, whereas Grant oversaw the passage of Portsmouth into relegation. Zola’s reward for keeping the team up was a “thanks, but no thanks” chat from Gold & Sullivan.
Are three games enough to measure a new manager by? Probably not, but a game with Chelsea next week followed by Stoke and Tottenham, the chance of zero points after six games is a distinct possibility. If that is the case, then bookmakers won’t be taking bets on Avram Grant’s imminent departure.
