Frank Lampard is in a precarious position.
Super Frank missed the Three Lions’ opening two qualifying fixtures for the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship recovering from a hernia procedure. England proceeded to display a swagger not seen since World Cup qualifying a year ago.
New captain Steven Gerrard flourished alongside Gareth Barry in the center of midfield. Lampard’s return would likely mean a move back to the left for Gerrard. But why do that? Why when the likes of Theo Walcott, James Milner and Adam Johnson have emerged as not only electric, but perhaps more importantly consistent, options on the flanks?
Sure, Lampard is the most prolific midfielder in Premier League history, regardless of the haters’ viewpoint. That, however, does little to defend his form for England, which has been far from stellar.
I simply don’t see how, with Gerrard playing as he is, Frank can find his way back into the England first-team conversation anytime soon. And at his age, 32, he doesn’t have that much time to make a case. What do you think?
